Funny Men at Falcon Ridge

Discussion: Funny Men at Falcon Ridge
Gordondon son of Ethelred · 20 years, 2 months ago
This just in Paul and Storm are playing FRFF! They won't be the funniest performers. Modern Man are playing too. If you haven't seen them mark off their time on your schedule and make sure you do. They don't get any funnier.
lawrence Back · 20 years, 2 months ago
This also just in. Paul and Storm stop being funny after two songs.

This also also just in. The Arrogant Worms, who are much funnier than Paul and Storm, are also playing at Falcon Ridge this summer.
Gordondon son of Ethelred Back · 20 years, 2 months ago
that isn't just in, that's old news we've discussed already.

I work with Storm's sister.

two songs? that's being generous.
Gordondon son of Ethelred Back · 20 years, 2 months ago
That isn't true, yes they don't vary from show to show but that show is funny.
*joolee* Back · 20 years, 2 months ago
I saw them a week or so ago at the Point. I was v. pleased they had some new stuff, but it all is rather similar.
esa que ves en el rincn · 20 years, 1 month ago
They're not as funny as DVN granted. But they're so adorable you can't help laughing along with them. And they're good people to boot, and that's high praise.
Misch Back · 20 years, 1 month ago
And who is this that you're talking about?

esa que ves en el rincn Back · 20 years, 1 month ago
Oops, sorry. In defense of Paul & Storm.
renita Back · 20 years, 1 month ago
um. considering the thread is ABOUT paul and storm...

at least primarily :p

i think the connection is pretty obvious :p

sometimes, it's okay to use basic logic to fill in gaps.
Josh Woodward Back · 20 years, 1 month ago
> um. considering the thread is ABOUT paul and storm...

I thought it was about funny men at Falcon Ridge..
Mamalissa! Back · 20 years, 1 month ago
Ouch!

Since when did dumping on Paul and Storm become such a popular sport. They are not as good as DVN they are still good. Some of you were quite friendly with them, would you say to their faces what you said here?
danced with Lazlo Back · 20 years, 1 month ago
I work with Storm's sister.

Just because you like somebody doesn't mean you have to like their work. I have some good friends who are painful to watch onstage, yet they insist on doing it regularly.
goovie is married! Back · 20 years, 1 month ago
exactly. thank you, leah. i like paul and storm a lot as people, and i think they're very talented. but i'm disappointed in the direction they've chosen to go with their songwriting, and i don't think it's the best work they could be doing. which. is just my opinion. *shrug*
Gordondon son of Ethelred Back · 20 years, 1 month ago
There is a difference in being critical and just being insulting.

Have you seen them as a duo?
Bender Back · 20 years, 1 month ago
Of all issues, why are you taking this one personally?
goovie is married! Back · 20 years, 1 month ago
exactly what i'm wondering.

(and, no, i haven't seen them, because i find their songs as a duo to be extremely sophomoric and unfunny. so why would i pay money to see them in concert?)
lawrence Back · 20 years, 1 month ago
Oh, sorry, I didn't realise that actually stating my opinion of their work was 'dumping on them' for 'sport'.
esa que ves en el rincn Back · 20 years, 1 month ago
There's a difference between saying that you don't like them so much and saying what you said. There is such a thing as *tact* you know. COnsidering that they know some of you, what do you think they would think if they read what you wrote? Or does that even matter?
goovie is married! Back · 20 years, 1 month ago
i think they're big boys and can handle criticism.
lawrence Back · 20 years, 1 month ago
I made a statement of my opinion, which is that they really stop being funny after two songs.

But no, it doesn't really matter. They don't really know me other than in the context of their (DVN more than P&S) shows, and I don't particularly care if they like me or not. They've never been my close personal friends (and to be honest, I've never been able to talk that easily to either of them - Bernie and Rich are much easier for me to talk to) and they never will be. It's not like I'm sacrificing anything by being critical of the work they do.

I mean, really, you should hear me talk about Adam Brodsky some time. :)
Erato Back · 20 years, 1 month ago
I'm not a huge Paul and Storm fan either. I wouldn't see them in concert I don't think. It has nothing to do with whether they're nice people or not (I really have no opinion) it's just I don't like their music too much.
renita · 20 years, 1 month ago
this thread sure got unpleasant.
Gordondon son of Ethelred Back · 20 years, 1 month ago
Amen
stealthlori Back · 20 years, 1 month ago
that's why i stayed the hell out.

*perplexed*
zil Back · 20 years, 1 month ago
me too.

I tend to avoid the forums most of the time.
Bender Back · 20 years, 1 month ago
good plan.
Kris 'engaged' Bedient Back · 20 years, 1 month ago

you know, renita, that is such a matter of opinion. I really enjoyed reading the "verbal" volley of insults and people getting offended because they wanted to. I laughed as I read the sharp words taken in the wrong spirit.

In fact, I'm offednded that you though it was unpleasant. who do you think you are to judge those comments as unpleasant? who knows how many people your one little comment has offended? *shakes head* *sigh* honestly.

[/drippingsarcasm] [krisbashing] bring it on

renita Back · 20 years, 1 month ago
?

WTF?
Kris 'engaged' Bedient Back · 20 years, 1 month ago
um. it's a joke *hugs*
stealthlori Back · 20 years, 1 month ago
well, *i* got it. :)

a joke. hee. humor. funny. poking fun at seriosity and anger and umbrage. yay!
Gordondon son of Ethelred Back · 20 years, 1 month ago
umbrage? Is it raining now?
stealthlori Back · 20 years, 1 month ago

no, but there's a scary scary new headmistress at Hogwarts.

oh, wait. she's gone now. *relief*

Bender Back · 20 years, 1 month ago
yeah, but she was replaced by Condy.
renita Back · 20 years, 1 month ago
i understood that it was supposed to be a joke :p

that's what people generally mean when they type things like < /dripping sarcasm>

i just didn't really see the point.
Kris 'engaged' Bedient Back · 20 years, 1 month ago
um, the point of jokes is frequently to be funny.
Gordondon son of Ethelred Back · 20 years, 1 month ago
WTF = What the Fruvous? :-)
Misch Back · 20 years, 1 month ago
WFTC?

Who Fruvoused The Cat
stealthlori Back · 20 years, 1 month ago
ewww! speaking of offensive ...

:D
Gordondon son of Ethelred Back · 20 years, 1 month ago
Jian obviously. We all know that Jian kills cats.
sheryls Back · 20 years, 1 month ago

so, "fruvous" is a verb which means to kill? omg.

perhaps it's a special way of killing. thus the "Moxy Fruvous"

"killing in a certain way with FLAIR."

Mamalissa! Back · 20 years, 1 month ago
perhaps it's a special way of killing

"Fruvous" is a setting on some older Swedish blenders. Thus, to "fruvous the cat" suggests Death by Smoothie.

Wasn't that a movie with Robin Williams?
sheryls Back · 20 years, 1 month ago
so to making a MOXY-filled fruvousing, do you push the button with tons of panache?
Mamalissa! Back · 20 years, 1 month ago
"Tons of Panache" would be a great name for a Fruvous cover band.
Gordondon son of Ethelred Back · 20 years, 1 month ago
If it were my band it would be "tons of pa-nash"
stealthlori Back · 20 years, 1 month ago
mine would be "tons of ganache".

yummeh.
Phoenix Back · 20 years, 1 month ago
hmmmmmm.

Nevertheless mine would be "tons of grenache" ;-p
stealthlori Back · 20 years, 1 month ago
i thought that would be measured in litres.

still a good plan, though. :D
Phoenix Back · 20 years, 1 month ago
CTF = catch the fruvous?
