If you don't, what do you think it should mean?
goovie is married! Back · 20 years, 4 months ago

Of course I know what topiary means... and it always makes me think of a stand-up routine where a woman was complaining about her boyfriend wanting her to... be one.
Misch Back · 20 years, 4 months ago
That took me a while... but I got it.

Perhaps "have one" would be better than "be one". ;-)

I seem to recall an English joke about a well trimmed bush...

Damn Fruheads are knowledgable. I'm sure 90% of the general public doesn't know what it means.

Are you sure? Anyone who's read The Shining knows what it means... and since Stephen King is the fast food of literature, that's probably a lot of people.
Gordondon son of Ethelred Back · 20 years, 4 months ago
It is always hard to gauge how many people read a book. A really big seller will sell 10,000,000 copies in the US. that's about a thirtieth of hte population. I tried to find how many copies the shining sold and couldn't find it. Can somebody else [Jaci] find it online somewhere?
shoebox Back · 19 years, 11 months ago
probably also anyone who's read paddington bear or edward gorey books, and/or seen edward scissorhands. at least, i know my formal introduction to the word came from one of those three sources.

From one of the Fruvous chain stories on the old Moxy Fruvous Playground site:

The man with the potted plant on his head flew threw the air, caught Bat Man off guard . . . That must have been what attracted the attention of our potted-plant-helmeted friend . . . and now a strange man with a topiary brow was stirring up a fuscia spackle with his index finger.

Ah yes, the good ol' Fruvous Playground. *sigh*

Gordondon son of Ethelred Back · 20 years, 4 months ago

my mother once kicked all our asses in a game of scrabble using the word "gazebo". also, that story is beautiful and the same age as me. we should become best friends and fight crime together.
