Are you sure? Anyone who's read The Shining knows what it means... and since Stephen King is the fast food of literature, that's probably a lot of people.

It is always hard to gauge how many people read a book. A really big seller will sell 10,000,000 copies in the US. that's about a thirtieth of hte population. I tried to find how many copies the shining sold and couldn't find it. Can somebody else [Jaci] find it online somewhere?
