Ticket Prices

   Discussion: Ticket Prices
Songbill · 20 years, 6 months ago
This week, I'm skipping seeing one of my heros, David Byrne, because tickets are $75. Even Wilco is $35. Thank goodness the Nields will be inexpensive this weekend. Are other people missing out on what should be good shows for the same reasons?
Andrea Krause Back · 20 years, 6 months ago

Yeah...any acts I like that become relatively big get priced out of my range. It's depressing. I suppose if they mean enought o me I make it happen. But few people fit in that category, even if I like them a great deal.

Songbill Back · 20 years, 6 months ago
I decided to fork it out for Simon and Garfunkel, which I think was worth it. But I can only do that every so often.
Andrea Krause Back · 20 years, 6 months ago

Yeah...I think my days are pretty far behind me but because it meant so much to me I coughed up a lot to see Paul McCartney both times and also Pink Floyd. I don't regret it, they meant a lot to me. Couldn't do it today though.

It's not a musical act, but I'd probably have seen a few more Watkins Glen NASCAR races if NEXTEL Cup weekend tickets weren't around $70 a head.

So, that's like, $140 for guys?
angelmusicmaven Back · 20 years, 6 months ago

Ugh... forked out a pretty penny for Hairspray, but had to stalk-errr-see-- Michael McKean... and will be definitely forking it over to see the pre Broadway debut of SPAMALOT in Chicago... diddja hear who they've got for this? David Hyde Pierce AND Hank Azaria and freaking Tim Curry!!!!

O.M.G. seriously!!!

But yeah... I mostly see cheap bands... but stage shows and sports are a different story.... I haven't even looked at hockey tickets as of yet...

Tickets for Michael Moore in Toledo are $5. Not too shabby. :)

Especially for someone that flabby! *badadump!*
A.J. Back · 20 years, 6 months ago
Honestly, I thinkMichael Moore should be paying US to attend his diatribes. Not that I disagree with him, but I wouldn't PAY to hear him.

we shelled out the $$ to see them last year, but this year, they're doing a theater show instead of an auditorium show, so tickets are way too expensive. *sigh*

of course, if they got bill berry back, i'd pay anything they asked...
Songbill Back · 20 years, 6 months ago
Same here. Urrggh.
Phoenix · 20 years, 6 months ago
hrm. I shelled out almost 50 Euros for a ticket (show will be at the end of October) but it's too rare an occasion to miss out ...
nate... · 20 years, 6 months ago
The only one I'd ever pay more than $25 for is Tom.

For him I'd pay .. well... just about anything.
:)
Songbill Back · 20 years, 6 months ago
Tom Waits?
goovie is married! Back · 20 years, 6 months ago

christine lavin/tom paxton double bill, tickets are $30+.

hugh's room.

this eats my soul.

will set aside money.
Wintress · 20 years, 6 months ago
Someone, somewhere, is willing to fork up the bucks. A lot of someones.

Interestingly enough, shows are cancelled for this exact reason: sales too low because people tend to pick one or two big shows for their summer concerts.
A.J. · 20 years, 6 months ago
$23 each for the upper balcony, Everyone over 1 yr. must have a ticket. Main Floor Seats were 30 bucks each. These for shows where the target audience usually is going to have 2 parents in tow. Dora Live was even worse. $40 a piece for the main floor. We skipped that.
Bender Back · 20 years, 6 months ago
but. dude.

it's The Wiggles.

I'd totally pay that.

Come on. The accents. Captain Feathersword. Dorothy the friggin' dancing dinosaur. A big purple octopus bandleader.

How can you beat that?
Geoff Back · 20 years, 6 months ago
My daughter had a BLAST at the Wiggles show. She was wearing a Dorothy tail, and dancing up a tiny little storm in the aisle.

. . . made girlyman too expensive this time around. It was so sad
Christina Abbott · 20 years, 6 months ago
i'm forking over not including taxes, etc about $45 a pop to take my fiance to see ani difranco @ the beacon theatre in nyc since he's never seen her live.

i told him it would be part of his birthday present. hopefully i can scrape together the funds before tickets sell out.

but usually $20-25 is the highest i can spend to see an artist.
ChrisChin is Getting Old · 20 years, 6 months ago
I just forked over about $45 bucks a pop including fees and such for Indigo Girls and Girlyman at the Palace Theater in Stamford CT, which is about where I draw the limit for performers that I really really want to see.

Most of the time, I usually try to stay within an upper limit of around 20 bucks for a music show.

This means that I probably won't get tickets to see REM when they go on sale on Saturday unless I can convince my brother to buy them for me as a early holiday present...which may work, which cost 45 to 75 bucks before fees.
