Poll: Ever play disc golf?

I was introduced to the sport of disc golf today, and damned if I didn't love it. I think I may have found a new passion in my life. The area in which I'm currently living (Barnstable, MA, on Cape Cod) is unique in the fact that we have two courses, an 18 hole one at Burgess Park in Marstons Mills, and a 9 hole at the Community College. My brothers took me out, and we played all 27 holes in total, and I would have been up for 9 more, but my brothers are wusses, apparently. I sucked, of course. I think I ended up at like 14 over par at Burgess, and I didn't even bother to keep score at the college. Each course definitely had its merits. Burgess was very clean, and there weren't many trees obstructing the shots. Having more holes was a bonus, too. The college had better targets (the ones at Burgess were basically welded together from spare parts) and the terrain was more varied. There's one hole where the tee is up on a cliff. It's wicked cool. But DAMN, the college course has some long-ass holes! Like, you get to the tee, and if you squint, you can just barely see the target...it's over the crest of the earth itself, basically. And there were a whole lot of broken beer bottles on the fairways at the college. While I can see the merits of playing the game completely wasted, that's just unneccesary, IMO. I almost got a really cool fluke birdie on the last hole we played. I had a terrible first throw on that one...it bounced off a high tree limb and dropped like a rock about 20 feet from the tee. Then I sidearmed it at the target, and it bounced off the chains and bounced out. I was PISSED. So anyway, any of you guys play out there? What are the courses like where you live?

I've heard of Frisbee Golf, this sounds similar...?

Same thing. Rochester is a pretty important city in the whole "disc golf" thing. I've played at the course at Ellison park before.

Frisbee is a trademarked name. 'disc' is the generic term.

I'm a disc golf fanatic (meaning it's pretty much the only think that will get me outside walking around happily) and I have a very simple technique for staying under par, which I will share with you now:

Play every hole as a par 4. It's so much easier.

Oh -- and discs are cheaper at used sporting goods stores, like Play It Again Sports and whatnot.

Minneapolis has tons of courses, but that spoils me -- I'm usually not satisfied anymore if a course has dirt tees or something like that.

Man, a par 4? How does that help on a par 3?

I actually got my disc for $10 at the White Hen Pantry next to Burgess Park. They had a bin full of the things. I got a Valkyrie, basically because the graphic was cool and shiny. Kept getting confused though, because my brother had a Cheetah that was the same color.

Er, I'm sorry.� I meant to say that you should score every hole as a par four.� It's a lot easier to get birdies that way.

In other words his philosophy boils down to "I reject your reality and substitute my own in its place" :)

I used to play disk golf or ultimate every week depending on how many people were playing. I'd usually use my aerobee. It is a fun game. I haven't played in years.

I'm all about the ultimate frisbee. I play e'ery monday with my peeps and homies in the philly area. WORD!
