Eggs made in bread.

So, there seem to be a LOT of terms for the process of cutting a hole in the center of bread with a glass, then throwing it on a skillet and cooking an egg in said hole.

I've always know it as a "spit-in-the-eye".

What's your term?

"egg-in-a-hole", basically.

It used to be my favorite when I was a kid.� Still like it a lot.

ooooooooh! i have no idea what it's called. but, they do that in moonstruck with cher! *glee* olympia dukakis puts tomato puree on it too. (ew.) :D

um..in 7th grade home ec class ALLL those years ago, we made it under -this- moniker.

I always learned it as an hobo egg, but that was cooking it on top of a coffee can (heated with a candle?) at girl scout camp (tagged along with the sisters and parent)

toad in the hole, from a kids cookbook. There was a similar term for a similar dish made with sausage, but now I can't remember.

Isn't the sausage one pigs in a blanket?

i thought toad in the hole was sausages in yorkshire puddings. hrm. :D

Actually, that's what I thought, too.� Odd, being as I've never had yorkshire pudding before and have no idea what it's like.

TOAD IN A HOLE��

1 egg
1 slice bread
3 tbsp. butter

Cut a circle out of center of bread slice. Fry bread in butter until brown and crisp on one side. Turn over and break egg into circle. Fry over low heat for 5 minutes.

I have always called it "egg in a hole"...pretty self explanitory huh?

i've never heard of or made this concoction.

however, when i went to girl guide camp, we put eggs in ziploc bags and boiled them. they were called "eggs in a bag".
