Lush in NYC

   Discussion: Lush in NYC
John J. Ryan · 20 years, 11 months ago

Since a lot of Fruconers end up visiting this expensive bath soap store in Toronto all the time, I though I'd point out that a small Lush store has opened in NYC in Herald Square. Just thought I'd point that out. It's nice to have a piece of Toronto in NYC.

renita Back · 20 years, 11 months ago
well, lush is actually british ;D

i'm not sure where the first store in canada was... very well could have been toronto. but yah.

dunno if i'd call it a piece of TO.

emilie is CRANKY Back · 20 years, 9 months ago

yup, definitely a british thing. \o/

and i'm placed rather well as far as lush access goes... there's one in reading (a 20-minute train ride away), and in the opposite direction, there's london, where there are at least 3 branches that i know of. whee! *smirk* :D

Misch Back · 20 years, 9 months ago
Actually...

In my travels today, I happened upon the Lush stor in San Francisco. On a board inside the store, the wrote that the store is actually British/Canadian. I asked for an explanation, and it goes something like this. The store itself is British. The Franchise rights are owned by Canadians, and their rights cover Canada and the US.

So, it's both British and Canadian.
Mamalissa! Back · 20 years, 9 months ago

I was in that very store, not6 days ago. Well, exactly6 days ago. The Victorian-style hotel I stayed in had a big deep tub, and I had a lovely time with my bath melt.

Does it make sense that I haven't been to the one in NYC (10 blocks from where I work) yet, but I've been to the one across the country?

elfy, teacher of many Back · 20 years, 9 months ago
nope. doesn't make sense. you're a freak. a freak who pays more than 5 bucks for a bar of soap.

Glad to have you in the club. :D
Phoenix Back · 20 years, 11 months ago
expensive is relative. IMO the stuff is worth every cent. And Lush CA is cheaper than Lush DE :)
goovie is married! Back · 20 years, 11 months ago
i think i'll also point out that most of the frucon types who are into lush already know that there's an nyc store. and a dc store. and just a few months til they open their chicago store.

and...yeah. it's british-based. but it's a worldwide company.
renita Back · 20 years, 11 months ago
oh definately it's worldwide.

but i just didn't quite get what made it a piece of toronto ;)
goovie is married! Back · 20 years, 11 months ago
oh, dude, that wasn't directed at you. that was directed at john, cos it sounded to me like he thought it was based in toronto, and this whole opening-up-other-branches-outside-of-toronto thing was new. *shrug*
renita Back · 20 years, 11 months ago
hee okay :)

that's what it sounded ike to me too.
John J. Ryan Back · 20 years, 11 months ago

I wasn't leading on to the fact that it was a Toronto thing, it's just that to me, I only know of the Toronto store, so to me, it IS like having a piece of Toronto in NYC, regardless of how it has stores around the world. I knew that, I even knew that the first Lush store in the USwas opened in San Fran.

Sheesh, I'm excited about something, and I get trampled for it.

Yeah, pretty much. ;-)

I thought their Canadian HQ was in Vancouver.

That's where my order came from last time.
renita Back · 20 years, 11 months ago
hrm iiiinteresting.

i'm not sure, but that wold make sense to me, that Lush would find their first market in Vancouver. you know, cause of all us tree-hugging-hippies ;)
Phoenix Back · 20 years, 11 months ago

mmmmTree-hugging-hippies *loves* oh I digress

Checking the stuff I purchased in Toronto I find:

Lush Ltd.
blabla ...some street
Vancouver, BC
Made in Canada

Yo!

renita Back · 20 years, 11 months ago
and THAT'S why, on your next visit to the Great White North you need to come farther west than Toronto. like. all the way to the other coast. dood.
Phoenix Back · 20 years, 11 months ago
Yeah. And I've already got a super sekrit plan:).

*smirks*
renita Back · 20 years, 11 months ago
*jaw drops*

what is it????
Phoenix Back · 20 years, 11 months ago
Hehe.

Psssst.

More like, if there's a frcon 8 I plan to book an open jaw-flight - to Toronto; from Vancouver. After frcon I could take a domestic flight to Vancouver and come play with the left coastiesand fly home from there. Yo!

Secret. Unraveled. :)

Alas. ;o)
Expecting Baby #2 in Octo · 20 years, 9 months ago

As opposed to the awesome early 90's alternative band called Lush.....

"Here we go, he's such a lady killer....." --- Lush

Andrea Krause Back · 20 years, 9 months ago
I adore them. :)
Expecting Baby #2 in Octo Back · 20 years, 9 months ago
Aren't they gems? That band rocks, though not as hard as Letters To Cleo. ;-)
Andrea Krause Back · 20 years, 9 months ago

So is anyone here also a Lush forumite????? I confess to being semi-addicted to the board and a full-fledged Lushie (in fact, I was one of the unbelievably lucky dozen to win the trip to Poole back in March to make the last discontinued batch -- if you're a forumite you'll know what I'm talking about).

If you are a Lush fan, it is definitely worth getting involved with the forum, if for no other reason that there are some great perks (access to the discontinued batches, one of whcih is coming up soon ... yummy stuff!!! ... and another is that they are having Lush Fanfares in NYC, Toronto and Vancouver in July ... *sob* Georgetown fell just short).

Favorite Lush items? For me it would be Waving Not Drowning, Softy and Sakura ballistics and Ocean Salt facial scrub. Of the discontinued, Ice Hotel bubble bar and World Peace ballistics.

I live for Lush ... and with my chronic back trouble (severe sacroileitis, if I spelled that right) I have to take hot baths pretty much every night ... wonder if I can write Lush off as a medical expense???

it's definitely worth a try. :D

what forum is that, pray tell? I just bought my first 3 things from there recently and I want to go back for more! Nummy soaps and the melty massage bars are my next purchace, methinks.

http://forum.lush.com/forum/index.php

Voila, the Lush forum. I guess it's too late to warn you what an addiction Lush can be ... at least if you're a bath freak like I am. All the other companies just pale in comparison ... if you didn't get a chance when you were at whatever Lush store you shopped at, be sure to pick up a copy of Lush Times next time ... quite a work of literature (the genius of a woman who goes by the nickname of "Auntie Pamela") ... andno, I'm not being snide or snarky. If the smells alone don't sell you on Lush, trust me, reading this catalogue will!!!

There is going to be a lot of new merch this summer so I'm already saving my pennies for the You've Been Mangoed bath melts and the new lavender bubble bars. My favorite stuff has been discontinued but I have a nice big stash of it in my study (which smells delicious, naturally).

link is gibbled, but I went exploring and found Lushcanada.com with a link to their North American Forum - I assume that's what you're talking about. :)

Just about to type in my info to get an account! woohoo! (and if Canada Day did not mean that malls close early, I'd head to the Metrotown store to try and limit myself to ONE soap and ONE massage bar/body butter. Ah, to have two Lush stores on good Transit routes.

What is Lush? Why is it cool?
elfy, teacher of many Back · 20 years, 9 months ago
Lush is a store that sells soap and other bath / beauty products by weight. If you walk by one of their stores, you'd likely smell it before you see it. It's a cacophony of fragrances that can, if you're not prepared, feel like an assault on your olfactories.

BUT when you see the stuff they sell - happy!sigh. There are HUGE cakes of soap that look like cupcakes or dessert squares. There are bath bombs (called 'ballistics') that are the size of two scoops of ice cream mushed together to form a globe (who OWNS a bath big enough to use a whole one?) and there are these body butter bars that look like artistic bars of soap, but they melt in your hands as if they were made of butter.

Maybe I should try a ballistic as well. My water pressure isn't really fantastic enough for the 'hollywood bubbles' that I was almost guaranteed from the bubble bars. I could chisel one in half. :)

forgot to mention - http://www.lush.com

While I love the bubble bars, my favorite perfect bath would combine a bath melt and a ballistic. The ballistics don't bubble or froth, but they turn the water gorgeous colors and smell heavenly (my favorite is Waving Not Drowning, but be forewarned, it is sleep inducing). There are different schools of thought on how to use the bath melts, but I find if you cut on in half or thirds and just use it like soap, it is delicious -- kind of warm and cool on your skin at the same time and divinely moisturizing. If you have insomnia, combine a WND ballistic and a Dreamtime bath melt. Just be sure to get out of the tub before you fall asleep in the water.
