but only for driving and movies. I hate wearing them around and don't really need them for everyday use.

oh, and first post. yeah.

Where is the bifocal option? This is a blatant case of creepy old man discrimination!
stealthlori Back · 21 years, 4 months ago
or creepy old woman discrimination, as the case may be ...
Mamalissa! Back · 21 years, 4 months ago
Are bifocals not corrective? Do we need a separate category for astigmatism? ;-}

If anything, I should've included laser surgery.

[edit] If you step on us, do we not break? If you wear us, do we not focus?

I have contacts now, but i still have my little brown glasses.
Andrea Krause · 21 years, 4 months ago

Sadly, no glasses. I have 20/15 vision. I LOVE glasses...on others and on myself. I can't bring myself to be a total poseur and buy non-corrective glasses though. :)

And I mourn when cute glasses people go for contacts (glares pointedly at sheryl). Glasses are so frickin' adorable it almost equals insta-crush for me. :)

sheryls Back · 21 years, 4 months ago
but they hide my face!! and you cant lay down on the couch and watch a movie with glasses. and in the summer they get all sweaty and gross. and they limit my peripheral vision. and..and..i just hate them :D
Andrea Krause Back · 21 years, 4 months ago
But...but...you are so hot in them. :) (Admittedly, you're hot without them...but still...*whine*)
sheryls Back · 21 years, 4 months ago
but i hates them! i dunno. i just think they bring out the more unfortunate features in my face and hide my eyes.
Andrea Krause Back · 21 years, 4 months ago
Heee...and to me, a good pair of glasses make eyes pop out. I become transfixed by the eyes when framed by glasses. :)
sheryls Back · 21 years, 4 months ago

but mine were all small. they definately covered up my eyelashes - i never wore mascara because my eyelashes would hit the glasses. my cousin has the same problem. once at a wedding i took my glasses off to clean them and a man walked up to me and said "oh, you're hiding a face under there.."

i dunno. sometimes i like glasses on other people. sometimes i don't. i never liked them on me. i used to only wear them when i had to (driving & in class). when i was dating moz, he liked my glasses so much he made me wear them all the time, and i just got used to it, and i'd get frustrated being unable to see without them.

i feel much more confident in contacts. i just do.

Andrea Krause Back · 21 years, 4 months ago
OK, OK I give up. :) I will honor your right to forego the glasses. I'll have a crush on you either way. :)
It's a girl! Back · 21 years, 4 months ago

I've gotten so I think I look basically ok in glasses, but I only feel attractive in contacts. My eyes sort of disappear behind glasses lenses and I just feel kinda plain looking in them. Which is dumb cos I do feel I'm giving into the stereotype of the mousy secretary who suddenly becomes a babe when she takes off her glasses and shakes out her hair.

I do like the way other people look in glasses. Like when Carey got glasses, somehow they just instantly looked right on her and it was almost hard to imagine her without them. They just look in the way on me.

And Andy looks way better with glasses than without.

hee! that's exactly how neal felt, too.

you are cute with or without glasses. but i can't picture andy without.

and when neal gets glasses, he's going to look like the unholy love child of michael maki and bernie muller-thym. :)

"Excluding sunglasses, I wear... Nothing."

Gee, Andrea.... when did you become a nudist?
Andrea Krause Back · 21 years, 4 months ago

When I decided my best bet on making my mark was to hold the world record for making people vomit. :)

Gordondon son of Ethelred Back · 21 years, 4 months ago
but glasses can be a pain in the neck. I always feel more comfortable with them off. If my insurance covered it I might get the corrective surgery. The only reason I said "might" is that I would still need reading glasses. I won't try contacts because both my sisters had major eye problems when they used them. My genes don't like them.
goovie is married! Back · 21 years, 4 months ago
i'm with andrea on the glasses fetish, tho i have glasses myself. i started wearing them about three years ago but probably should have had them since i was about 13.
Annika · 21 years, 4 months ago
I wear glasses, unless it's bright, than I wear contacts so I can wear sunglasses.
Gordondon son of Ethelred Back · 21 years, 4 months ago
I wear my superdork sunglasses that fit over my glasses. I also have a pair of prescription sunglasses but they aren't bifocals and don't provide as much protection as my wraparounds. I take my UV exposure seriously as I was on steroids for much of my life and my sister and cousin both got cateracts in their forties.

Transition lenses are the way to go. Sunglasses outside, regular glasses inside.

The only problem I had was when they were taking a group photo at my job and they wanted to do it outside. My glasses transitioned and there was some discussion about wether it would be better to leave them on, or take them off. I said people would be more likely to recognize me with them on, even if the lenses were dark.

lawrence Back · 21 years, 4 months ago
transition lenses are a problem for driving at night, though. I had them for about a week and had to exchange them for two pairs because all lights came out doubled. it may have simply been that particular prescription, but it really sucked. plus, it was quite a battle getting them to agree to the exchange, since apparently that's common with transitions and they simply neglected to tell me ("You should have known.")

Shoot! I didn't until I read your post John. *glare* I guess it could be far worse than Tom Petty though.
dirty life & times · 21 years, 4 months ago
i had huge old glasses from third grade on & hated them passionately. at twelve, i used a big chunk of my bat mitzvah money to buy contacts & i never (so to speak) looked back.

not many people know i have horrible eyesight & very few people who met me after i turned twelve have ever seen me with glasses.
Dig in deep ;x · 21 years, 4 months ago
I actually wear my glasses most of the time unless I'm going out somewhere, I just get way to lazy to put my contacts in, in the morning. It's a pain actually, and sometimes they suck to my eyeballs, so I heart my Emporio Armani glasses.
renita · 21 years, 4 months ago
...but we'll see, last time I went for an eyeexam, she hmmed a bit but decided I'd be better without.

However, it's time for a new exam. we shall see.

and while respecting her decision, I just want to add my vote to the Sheryl-is-extra-hot-in-glasses pile
meh · 21 years, 4 months ago
I went with the contacts option. I wear them mostly -- I love the idea of (in theory) being able to see right when I wake up.

But a couple times of year I switch off to glasses -- my sinuses make my eyelids swell up when they go wonky, and I can't keep contacts in. So, uhm, yeah.

Of course, if my eyes get much worse, I'll have to switch back to glasses full-time.

Funny story, because I'm procrastinating other things by posting here -- I got my first pair of glasses in Kindergarden. Within six months, my perscription had doubled. We realized then I was doomed.
Arbie Back · 21 years, 4 months ago

I have needed glasses since I was about 12. Started out with really dorky ones that I would only wear when I absolutely needed to (in class and only if I wasn't sitting up front). I switched to contacts when I went to college because I found I was haveing trouble reading music in jazz band and keeping my trumpet up (typical standing trumpet setup). Plus the vanity thing. At that time soft lenses were not able to do astigmatism so I had semi-permeable hard lenses. Once I got out into the real world I would often go 14-16 hours wearing them and eventually I had a problem of them flattening my corneas. My prescription went from about -1 to +4. So I had to stop wearing them, thankfully my eyes recovered. But I will not go back to contacts.

Lately I have noticed that I am better off without my glasses for anything under about 4 ft. from my nose, it is probably way past time to get my eyes checked.

Mamalissa! · 21 years, 4 months ago
I first got glasses at the end of high school, and wore them in class and to drive. In college I started wearing them all the time. Around my Junior year I tried the contacts, and my eyes were extra-dry and I had to use a lot of eye-drops. Eventually, I bought the one day disposables, and wore them only on special occasions.

I think I look pretty good both with and without glasses, but I suspect none of you have ever seen me without. People say I look very different.
goovie is married! Back · 21 years, 4 months ago
i've seen you without!! probably at gordon's party or frff. i didn't think you looked *too* different, tho.
Prinut · 21 years, 4 months ago

i wear contacts and glasses. but usually glasses...but lately contacts.

if that made any sense.

zil · 21 years, 4 months ago
I wear glasses for driving and movies and such. I hates them. they don't much suit my face but I can't afford ones that do and so I wear the same scratched pair I've had for the last 5 years.
ChrisChin is Getting Old · 21 years, 4 months ago

I've been wearing glasses since 3rd grade and haven't really stopped since. I got thick plastic-framed ones initially and slowly made the move towards thinner metal ones frames but with huge squarish-circular lenses that covered most of my face. I finally made the switch to narrower more oval shaped lenses with a thin metal frame, which definitely too some time to get used to, as now there was just empty space where there used to be corrective lenses.

I also have a pair of prescription sunglasses that are larger and use primarily for driving (which makes for some interesting in-car switching techniques when the sun has set. :). Still, I'm fairly useless without my glasses. I'm near sighted (R: -3.50, L: -3.75) with a slight astigmatism. I can basically make out shapes and HUGE lettering unless theobjects areless than a foot away from me. Sigh...never tried contacts though, as I always had a fear of poking my eye to put something in it.
