Poll: How do you find most of the artists you discover?

I use all the methods above except for the internet. I think the biggest sources are the radio, WFUV to be precise, and festivals.

I voted for friends too although my second choice was "on the same bill as artists you already know" and the internet wasn't far behind that.

Yep, same here.
Someone mentions a band/artist and I go online and download whatever I can find.
Then, if I like it, I buy albums.

I had to stop and do a little math, but I think festivals are probably my #1. Of course, after a while from sticking your head out you just start hearing things about artists you like and artists they like. It's like one big grapevine. Mmmm... grapes. Am tired.

When I have extra money, I go to the record store and buy an album by someone I've never heard of.� I've found a lot of great artists that way,� I've also found a lot of shit ones.

The library is also good for this.� I haven't been to the library in ages due to unpaid late charges, but I'll often come home with a big armload of random cd's that just happened to have vaguely interesting covers or something.

Of course, I often don't end up listening to most of them... but still.� 9_9

Some of the best musician discoveries I've ever made have come directly from this very site. Without it, I would be unaware of Dar Williams, Peter Mulvey, Goody, Da Vinci's Notebook, and Eddie From Ohio. What would I do without you guys?
