EFO albums

   Discussion: EFO albums
Laura P. · 20 years, 8 months ago
I got this idea from the "curious listener" thread. I have gotten into Eddie From Ohio just recently, as in the last 6 months. They have quite a few albums out and I need suggestions as to what albums I should buy in what order. I already have Three Rooms, Looking Out the Fishbowl and Quick. Am I missing an essential one that I need to run out and buy right now?

i would get portable efo show, fido, big noise, actually not, and juggler, in that order. i'd say they're all worth having because there's some great stuff on each of them, and it's cool to see how far they've come since their early days.

Not the Cow Album?

Well, you already have a very nice intro into the music of EFO. To continue your exposure, I personally would suggest either I Rode Fido Home or The Portable EFO Show. Fido has lots of great songs including This My Town, Oh My Brother, Bookends, Moons of Jupiter, and one of my favorite Robbie songs, Jerusalem. Portable is a double disc live album full of random banter and it's just pretty fun to listen to. There's a couple of songs from Fido, along with a Robbie cover of Lyle Lovett's If I Had A Boat, One, and The Three Fine Daughters of Farmer Brown.

If you like live EFO, I would gowith Portable. But if I had choose one, I would probably get Fido, cause it's sorta where EFO starts to become more polished and it hits the spot for me.

Will I be disappointed with the earlier albums? (Once I work my way around to them?)Because I have to say I was kind of spolied--I got Three Rooms first and it just was so awesome, then the studio cuts of the same songs were still good, but didn't have the same energy.

i myself was worried, too aboot the older albums, but i gotta say, i LOVE them!!!!!

in fact, i had to replace my 'juggler' and, of course, 'fishbowl' has been dangerously close to death since 2 FRFFs ago. and 'big noise' i shall never tire of

as with any artist, not -everything- appeals to everybody{'when she talks', i know is not a popular song amongst many fruheads...}, but there is some great stuff on the old albums and they don't resurrect that stuff much any more.

which reminds me, i need to reiterate to mike the 'song i wanna hear live -sometime- before i die again soon :P

though, i have been labeled as biased where EFO is concerned...and probably for good reason, admittedly :)

Actually, while I think Three Rooms is a great album, and much better than Portable EFO show, I tend to like their older stuff better. I usually skip half of Quick. Fishbowl is my favorite though, and that's still kinda new.

I agree... fishbowl is my favorite studio album of theirs.

I'm not a fan of Quick.

I just want to say...that while i'm not a huge fan of quick (it's still worthwhile to have)....and Fishbowl, portable efo show and 3 rooms are really really really really awesome (and i do own *all* their albums)....Big Noise is a cool album...it's not quite as interesting as some of their later ones, and it doesn't have the same depth of character, but there are some really great songs, and it makes really great background music for life. we keep it in our living room and put it on all the time. Also....Big Noise is a great song and the bonus track is a riot!

After reading the other suggestions, I apparently need to rework my EFO strategy. I have all the albums except the live albums. I've heard them both and want to add them to my collection, but they're nowhere near the top of the list.

Since we all seem to have opinions on this, I'd start with Actually Not. I may be biased since that was my starting point, but I think it's one of their finer albums. Juggler is a bit rough, but that's to be expected from their first. Fido hasn't quite caught my ear yet, and I've had it for two years.
