Choice of venue to see your favorite band?

I'm first. No way! Someone's probably beating me to it as we speak. Or as I type, rather.
No contest, house party. I mean, this is an "ideal situation" kind of question. What's more ideal that sitting in your own backyard watching your favourite band. No yucky public bathrooms! Plus, if your socks get wet, you can go in and change them. One thing I noticed ... you can hit the back button and change your vote. :) I know it's useless information NOW but I hope it helps in the future.
When I wrote the poll, I had added in parenthesis (It's okay to be unrealistic with your choice)
I imagine that many West Coasters already are imagining that the perfect house party venue would be Mike's place. He IS the host with the most! I admit that's what I was thinking when I voted. The house where I used to live was perfect for house parties. Not that I hosted more than a couple of small ones. But the kitchen, dining room and living room were all open, and adjoined by an atrium. We could fashion a stage in the atrium for a small band (and improv games).

And I'm not even talking about backyards, I'm talking living rooms. One of the best shows I've ever seen was Peter Mulvey playing, unplugged, in a living room in Indianapolis to about 20 people. There's something very beautiful about the purity of it. Of course, with the people I'm going to see nowadays, I rarely see anything bigger than a coffeehouse. *grins*
I have to admit that that particular Peter show was one of my favorites, but I voted for coffeehouses. there's a wonderful one close by, and the music is always fun

despite the fact that i voted small club (koz my favorite bands wouldn't fit in a house), my favorite environment would have to be the house party. jaci and i went to see colleen sexton at a local house concert and it was positively amazing. i'd kill to see peter mulvey in someone's basement with about 10-20 people watching... -= george =-
Oh we'd be THRILLED to host a norg house party any time we could manage to snag him. That norg...he's a one man show!
That is just it! I need to move out West where all my friends have cool bands!

I dunno. I ended up voting 'small club'.
see, i REALLY like the house party. I love it, and Mike IS the greatest host in the world. BUT. There's something about going to a small club. I love the Railway club. I love going there. I love goign there alone or with friends, or making friends once I'm there. the house party is great for the music, but, for me, it's also about being with my friends, I know they all love the music--and I love watching their reactions. In the club, you can people watch--and I've found that there's a greater diversity of reactions to the music. so. yah. I love a house party--but it's a sometimes thing, even if I could make all the shows I went to house parties--I wouldn't. That said. One of my favorite shows ever was the house party at Mike's. so. yah. there's my $0.02 (well, i guess it's more like $0.25--but who's who's counting?)

though i have yet to cast my vote, i -will- say this. i think that by FAR one of the coolest, funnest things i have ever done was the whole Fr-B-Que house concert EVENT at Lori and Steve's. it was MUCH more than a 'house concert'; we turned it into one of the most KICK IN THE ASS events ever and was fun for all. i loved being part of it. i loved organizing the secret T-shirt thingy with anita. i loved going over one night to help lor clean for company. i loved helping get stuff ready that day. and sitting on the grass about 5 feet from the band with a beer in my hand, NOT on a tarp that i hadta get up at 4AM to put down and nazi for space on was pretty damned cool. and, of course, watching gordon bug jian and dave. and watching them play video games. and fordy not understanding my macaroni salad. ;) and.....of course........the 3-ton VAT of anchor bar chicken wing sauce. o/' mem-ries.....o/'
