I've never really understood why folks would want to. I don't think it's wrong to, that's not what I mean. I just never understood it.
I like to see when people are sending a frumessage and wondering if it's for meeee! :)
yeah! or when you meet someone new on the wall and next to their name it says 'view profile' or whatever and you know they're looking at yours! heeheehee! *dance* :)
heehee, actually that's a very good point. that would be *totally* creepy :D
I'm with nate.
You don't need to know what I'm doing on FHDC.
*wink* you and me baby...over to the What's New? section....now! ;)
*rowr!*

I guess it is that one last remnant of privacy. This is the only forum I've participated in EVER where I actually use my full, real name... it's out there all the time. People here know who I actually am, not just who my online persona may be. I think that is kind of a big deal on the internet, to have that kind of trust. So I guess I like to keep at least something to myself. It might not make sense, but there you have it.

I keep mine showing because I know it's helpful when other people do. If I'm on a back-and-forth messaging spree with someone, and they've been idle for a few minutes, it helps to know if they're writing a message or not. That way I have an idea of how long it'll take. By the same token, I definitely understand those who keep it hidden. It'd be too intrusive to not have an option to hide it.
For those who don't know what we're talking about, Customize Profile and you'll see a "Show My Actions on Recent Users" checkbox. If you uncheck this, your action will turn into "--------" instead of something descriptive. Another relevant one is "Include Me On The Member Directory". If you uncheck this, you'll be effectively hidden on the site, including the "Who's On" menu. Not a lot of fun, but some people are touchy that way.

The ability to be completely invisible might be useful someday, beyond that *shrug* the only use I have found is to determine if a frum or a wall entry is likely to be seen anytime soon. Not much of a guaranty there either, particularly if people leave without explicitly logging out.
