Hrm...honestly I use "Britcom" to mean more than just British sitcoms...I include movies, sketch shows, etc...just stuff that has the British comedy sensibility.

As for what to call American sitcoms...how about just...crap? :)

american sitcoms are bad, yes. though you gotta love will and grace's first series (i.e. before the audience found just *everything* they said *hysterically* funny) :)

and boy, if you thought coupling was bad, there are some even worse britcoms out there. omg, like 'my hero', for example. or that awful one where jasper carrot is married to that asian comedienne and they have this huge dysfunctional family and it's meant to be hilarious but the kids are just such bad actors and ARGH, hatehatehate that show! :D
