Poll: Do you like seeing films the day they are released?

Other than seeing the LOTR premier at midnight with Gordon, I've never braved the first-day masses for a movie.

I used to be something of a fanatic about it. I wanted to see pristine copies of the movie with no damage to the film. If I ever got back into being a regular movie goer and found someone that felt the same way I'd do it again.

I'd rather avoid all the fangirls, fanboys and other weirdos and wait a while ...

The weirdos are the best part. OK that's immodest of me as I'm one of the weirdos :-)

Rarely the first day, but if I HAVE to see the movie right away, I'll do first weekend... like Bridget Jones 2(saw on Sat) and Harry Potter (went out to the sticks where my fam lives and saw that the Sat. of the first weekend).

I cannot wait a single moment longer than I absolutely must for that film, lest I burst.

i care about buying cds the day they're released, but with movies i can wait. we rarely went to movies when i was growing up, so i don't have that sense of urgency. i'll often just wait til the dvd. :P

I normally don't go to the movies for one main reason:

I can't pay attention to one thing for two hours.

Even during things I enjoy, my attention wanders something major. At the weekly improv show I go to, I often completely miss out on a scene because I become intrigued with trying (and failing) to figure out something with the scoring and why is that balloon there, can I get up and get it without bothering anyone and why did they leave the lights on over here and is that Peter in the booth? Why the hell are they continuing this scene if Peter's in the booth? He normally knows when to end a scene and god, I really hope they start making out, that would be fantastic and goddammit! scene's over and no makeout and ooh, next scene and how old is she, anyway? I mean, she looks about thirteen, but has to be in her early 20s but could possibly be older but I swear she looks, like, twelve and SOUNDS LIKE A SONG! Wait. They're not playing that game. I'll grin and make it look like I was being a witty jackass. Yeah.

Yeah we barely go to the movies at all. But we went to see the Incredibles this weekend. It helped that we were old-geezer-like and went to the matinee. With a $5 gift certificate. So both of us saw it for under $8 total.� Most other times, it just doesn't seem worth it when we're not the type of people who NEED to see it in big screen and you can later buy a DVD for the price of two movie tickets, almost. :)

I used to, but then working during the day makes the body tired, so I more or less see movies on my days off now. *shrugs*

Usually if there's a movie that really excites me that it will hurt if I don't see it, I will go on opening night or at least opening weekend. Within the last few years, this has held true for the Star Wars prequels, the LOTR Trilogy, Harry Potter, Chicago, and a few small indie films here and there.

For the bigger sci-fi fantasy pictures, I really do like going with a sold out audience of crazed fans on opening night. Sure, they will yell and scream at some parts, but that's what makes watching the movie so much fun for me.

I've gone to premiers at midnight at least twice to see the very first showing of a film. Once for the original Dawn of hte Dead and the other for Fellowship of hte Ring. You meet interesting people online for things like that.

Is there anything worse than a full theatre?

heh, maybe i've just changed too many diapers over the years, but i'd have to say the full theatre is worse.
