I decided to do a search for "Fruvous" in the New York Times archives. I missed too many of them the first time through. I didn't know that John Schwartz, a technology writer was a Fruhead. Do any of you know him?
The earliest reference was a review of a Ani show that Fruvous opened back in 1994. This is what the Times had to say about the lads.
Moxy Fruvous, a four-man band from Toronto, opened the show with cheerful novelty songs. The group uses elaborate doo-wop-style vocal harmonies and wryly free-associative lyrics, in songs that mix pop-culture name dropping with glimmers of political discontent. After songs about a book-obsessed girlfriend, Spiderman, Rush Limbaugh and a polluted river valley, the show-stopper was a rap remake of Dr. Seuss's "Green Eggs and Ham."
Here is the
list of all the articles that mention Fruvous.
