pistachios?

   Discussion: pistachios?
Paul · 17 years, 10 months ago
I don't know if most have seen this email from Jian G:

have you listened to Q yet? well...have you?

Q is my new daily program. it is better than pistachios. i mean, almost
better than pistachios.

Q launched on april 16 and has caught the attention of many interested
listeners, like...my parents. and my sister. it is heard nationally in
canada on CBC RADIO ONE and across north america on SIRIUS satellite. it can
be found at 2pm and 10pm in various time zones and can be reached through
the wonders of the CBC.CA website too (just click on "listen to radio one").

honestly, the show has been rocking along and in our first two weeks it has
strangely already developed something of a cult following. could be the sexy
host. or, folks appreciate the multi-disciplinary approach to arts,
entertainment and culture. it has been heard by over 2.5 million listeners
since it launched (real actual people listening to cbc in my timeslots).
not so bad. and most important, i've been told i look particularly hot on
radio. very hot. (it's the makeup)

this week on Q i've got everyone from RUFUS WAINWRIGHT to MARGARET ATWOOD to
FEIST to HARRY SHEARER paying a visit. and tomorrow TORI AMOS is live on the
show.

i would like you to tune in. you might like it. with your pistachios. and
stay in touch. you can email me or facebook me.

that is all. for now.

yours,

j.

You got me all excited; I thought this forum was on pistachio nuts. I love pistachio nuts. They are worthy of having a forum. Now I see it is about Jian so I'm disappointed.

Pistachio (Pistacia vera)

Probably native to Iran and adjacent areas, pistachios have been carbon-dated to 6760 BC. This nut of antiquity is one of two mentioned in the Old Testament. Pistachios are said to have featured in the fabled Hanging Gardens of Babylon, built about 700 BC by King Nebuchadnezzar to cheer up his wife, Amytis, who found the flat Babylonian landscape dreary.

Pistachios grow well in arid countries such as Turkey, Syria, Afghanistan and Iran. They also turn up in Pakistan and India, as well as in Mediterranean Italy, Tunisia and Greece. In the last 30 years or so, the pistachio has found new homes in California, New Mexico and Arizona. The rugged pistachio, cousin to the mango, cashew, sumac and poison oak, thrives in heat and grows well in rocky, dry soil. It reaches a height of 25 feet and its holly-like leaves grow in threes, its nuts in clusters resembling grapes.

The pistachio's uniqueness, certainly among nuts, is its green color. Food historian Waverly Root has asserted that the green of the nut opened up the possibility of inserting the color green naturally into desserts, an area of cuisine previously green-deprived. The early people of Persia used several nuts in desserts, the Arabs copied them, and the Europeans under Arab control in Spain during the Middle Ages in turn copied them. So green crept into after dinner pleasures. Most familiar of these today is probably pistachio ice cream and pistachio nougat candy.

Pistachios are high in iron and potassium and are about 20 percent protein.

Now that's more like though. Though notice that both Pistachios and Jian are originally from Iran.

There for...if A->B->C....Jian is a Pistachio!

well, the olive-toned complexion & those hideous red stripes in his hair circa 2000 don't help to disprove your theory. ;-)

Are you saying that Jian is a nut?
Starfox Back · 17 years, 9 months ago
Well, you know what Jian probably says to that..."Sometimes you feel like a nut..."

Jian + Facebook = HaHaHaHaHa

But we will always know the truth. The boy turns 40 this year.

*wonders how many people added him to their fl because of this post*  People are so cute sometimes.
Gordondon son of Ethelred Back · 17 years, 9 months ago
I added him. I didn't check to see if he accepted me.
Annika Back · 17 years, 9 months ago
Ooooh!  I guess I'm not entertained enough to read the entire email.  I didn't notice that he said he was on facebook.
Paul Back · 17 years, 9 months ago
Is there a difference between the two? (facebook & myspace).
nate... Back · 17 years, 7 months ago
Not really..
danced with Lazlo Back · 17 years, 9 months ago
I added him too. I even added a personal message to the friend invite. He has not yet deigned to accept my invitation of friendship. So typical. So Jian. Says he wants to be your friend then totally forgets about you. *chuckles*

If he doesn't get back to me soon I'll have to write another 40 page treatise.
Rimbo · 17 years, 9 months ago
Sorry I'm late on this.

Yes, I would like some pistachios.
VaiVedrai · 17 years, 7 months ago
I recently had the chance to listen to the show, and it's pretty good. Interesting, for what it's worth.
