Turn ons....

   Discussion: Turn ons....
trunger is counting... · 18 years, 9 months ago

blondes, strawberry blondes, brunettes, redheads....well, i'm not taling about THOSE kind of turn ons.

rather, I was listening to the radio today and "The Middle" by Jimmy Eat World came on and I was thinking to myself "hey, that was the song that really got me into them"

so, in that spirit, what songs by artists got you first interested in them. you know, the one song that made you think that that particular artist or band is your favorite. Here are a couple of mine:

King of Spain - Moxy Fruvous

Underground - Ben Folds Five

Speak - Nickel Creek

Tom Sawyer - Rush
Girlfriend - Matthew Sweet
Only in Dreams - Weezer
Bus to Beelzebub - Soul Coughing
Baker Street - Foo Fighters
Particle Man - TMBG

I'm so boring.

It's funny for most of my favs one song didn't sell me. I first heard Fruvous do an interview on the radio where they did a number of songs.

Most of my other favorites became so when I saw them live. The one exception I can think of is Christine Lavin. I heard her do Shopping Cart of Love on the radio and the next day I bought tickets to see her perform live.

Fruvous - Green Eggs and Ham
WA9 - Writing Again at Vance's FRFF workshop those many years ago.
Alice in Chains - Would?
Tom Waits - In the Colosseum
OK Go - A Million Ways

Man... if I went through my cd rack, I could probably tell you the song that "hooked" me for every artist in there.

You stole my exact answer for WA9. Jerkface. :)

I'd also add:
Indigo Girls - Galileo
Barenaked Ladies - If I Had $1,000,000
Simon & Garfunkel - America
Paul Simon - Under African Skies

I'm sure there'd be more, but I've got papers to grade and lessons to plan and only an hour left before my next class. Sigh.

Shiny Happy People - R.E.M.

seriously-- that's what got me into them. at the time (91-92) all I was listening to was the B-52's and I was intrigued by this song that Kate Pierson was on.

Moxy Fruvous - I bought Bargainville on a whim as per suggestion from undernet #tmbg, and I HATED IT. I gave it a chance, however, over the course of a week. Needless to say, I grew right into it.

Yeah, that's pretty much it. I'm a ridiculously snobby music, uhh, snob.
