Discussion: Would you date someone with the same name as an ex?
Gordondon son of Ethelred · 19 years ago
Exes have names? Do Pees Cues, and Vees? Do all their names begin with X? Xerxes, Xena, Xenophon, and uh, not a lot of X names.
*joolee* Back · 19 years ago
My X's name does! I call him XJ! (he was previously known as SJ) :D
Zach Back · 19 years ago
Xerxes, Xeones, Professor Xavier...
Gordondon son of Ethelred Back · 19 years ago
You know a Xeones? I should have thought of Xavier.
Zach Back · 19 years ago
I don't know him exactly...he was a character in Steven Pressfield's Gates of Fire.

Weird poll. And it isn't even a Gordon poll :D

Does this mean that if I have an ex called Jenny all future Jennys are out of teh question?

*rollseyes*
Gordondon son of Ethelred Back · 19 years ago
technically no. It says "same name" not "same first name" so I think it only excludes people with exactly the same name. If your ex was Jenny Marie Jones you could still date someone named Jenny Maria Jones or Jenny Mary Jones.

Does the question count if you've never been in a dating relationship?
Andrea Krause · 19 years ago
Previously dated a Paul for over 6 years. Currently am with another Paul for about 4 years now. Things get very confusing when trying to talk about both of them at the same time.
Gordondon son of Ethelred Back · 19 years ago
it is confusing for us too. I just came up with teh solution. Have them both change their names to Pete. Then they can be Pete and Repeat.
sheryls Back · 19 years ago
or they could do the adventures of pete & pete!
nate... · 19 years ago
Is this actually a serious consideration for some people?

Geoff Back · 19 years ago
It would weird me out to a degree. It would really depend on how good the sex is. ;)
nate... Back · 19 years ago
Interestingly... I don't think I ever have dated someone with the same name as an ex.

weird.

Geoff Back · 19 years ago
I know I haven't...but I haven't really dated and Jennifers or Jessicas. You don't really come across Adis or Hollys or Krispys very much.

Oh crap, I just remembered that Krispy has an FHDC account. Speak her name and she appears! GAH!
Andrea Krause Back · 19 years ago

psychologically, it can be. Especially if you were abused in that relationship. It may be emotionally difficult, if some dude name Biff treated you like absolute crud, to face being reminded of that daily by dating another Biff.

Is it logical? Not really...but when has the politics of painful memories ever been logical? :)

nate... Back · 19 years ago
ohhh.. yeah, I could definitely see that.
*nods*

I was thinking when I said that of my own experience... where I'm still friendly with all my exes.
:)

jen · 19 years ago
Not only am i currently dating someone with the same (first) name of an ex, but their phone numbers are the same except for ONE DIGIT. I found that out the hard way when i accidently phoned up ex-Adam tying to reach current Adam. Thus ensued massive confusion and embarrassment. To further perpetuate the coincidence, it turned out that the ex had moved back to his parents house THAT DAY after breaking up with his live-in girlfriend, the girl he had broken my heart over 2 years before. I still can't get over the sheer weirdness of it all!
Rachel Marie aka RAI · 19 years ago
My boyfriend of 3 1/2 years dated nothing but Jennifers before me. That kinda weirded ME out; I don't know how he took it.
Annika · 19 years ago
If everyone I dated had the same name it would have made my dating life happier as I've called someone I was dating by an ex's name a stupid amount of times..

What I want to know is, would you date someone with the same name as your sibling?

I've turned down a couple of people because it creeped me out that they had the same name as one of my brothers.
Andrea Krause Back · 19 years ago

Paul v1.0 and I had a friend Aimee whose brother dated (and I think married?) a girl with the same name as her. Even with the same odd spelling. So now they have the same name, I think.

And actually I think my friend Natalia's brother married another Natalia.

Gordondon son of Ethelred Back · 19 years ago
My father had a sister Beatrice which is also my mother's name. His sister died when she was 30, before my parents were married. My father inherited many of her books and I'd find them in the house with her name in them and thougth they were my mother's.
A girl named Becca Back · 19 years ago
One of my friend's father and maternal grandfather are both named Len. I guess it's not THAT weird to marry someone with the same name as your dad since most people don't use their dads' first names while they're growing up. Like, my dad is Dad, not Mike, so dating a guy named Mike wouldn't seem odd.
Andrea Krause Back · 19 years ago

I called my dad dad but I also knew him as Bob (mostly because he'd tune me out and I'd say "dad dad dad dad dad dad" etc and he wouldn't turn around until I went "Bob!". :) ) . But I don't think it'd be a huge issue if I dated a guy named Bob since my dad spelled it backwards.

sheryls Back · 19 years ago
heh. my mom tunes out "mom" "mother" and "kristi" and sometimes i have to resort to "WOMAN!!"
Andrea Krause Back · 19 years ago
It's amazing how for a certain stretch of time the parents are conditioned to notice every little peep from the kid and pick 'em out of a crowd....but eventually they learn to tune the rugrats out. :)
Annika Back · 19 years ago

I have a thing about siblings names, but I hadn't thought about parent or grandparent names. I suppose that wouldn't be as weird to me to date someone with the same name as them..

*joolee* · 19 years ago
I'd like to think that I've ruined all my ex's chances of being able to handle another Julie.

Bwahahahhahahahhahaahahahha!!!hah!
renita · 19 years ago
my boyfriend's sister is named renata, so his family gets the names mixed up sometimes.

what's funnier is that renata's husband has a brother and the brother also married a renata.
Gordondon son of Ethelred Back · 19 years ago
The Brother is a copycat. That's where I draw the line.

My parent's had friends Eileen and Joe who we called Big Joe. Joe's father was named Joe. Eileen and Big Joe had a son, they named Joe who we called Little Joe. Little Joe married a girl named Eileen. Eileen's father's name was Joe. I am glad I was never at a one of their family gatherings.
