looks like this is around the time of year someone always asks about Frucon, so I figure I will.
I remember the idea we had last year, because there were so few of us and we all fit in the suite, to just not bother with the conference room and rent the 2-story suite for two nights, so we have it Friday evening and all day and night Saturday.
but that requires knowing how many people are planning to come, doesn't it?

If I can afford it, I plan to go to Toronto in February, if only to visit Kath, and I would EXPECT AJ to join me *hint*
I'd say you are more like pate de foie gras, a delicacy.

i believe i will be in north carolina with the sisterati of the cuddlepile. rebecca can correct me if i'm wrong.
I've never had the opportunity to go to FruCon. It's always the same weekend as my husband's b-day. What's it like? What do you do? Can I learn the secret handshake?
Cause, like, I know the rest of us aren't even worth bothering with. You absolutely hate seeing me, for example. :P
At least not in the winter.
However, there are so many awesome things in the summer. We have the second-biggest pride celebration in north america (second only to San Francisco). It's absolutely fantastic. It's a huge week-long party. Church street is closed off from just about Yonge to College. Amazing. Toronto International Film Festival -- biggest publically-attended film festival in North America. Hot Docs -- biggest documentary festival in same. Caribana -- amazing Caribbean festival. There are always some kind of street fair going on. There's always something moving, shaking, and exciting. The city is green and alive. Personally, I love going down to the Christie Pits to read and watch the kids playing in the splash pad. Toronto sort of sucks in the winter. I know February FruCon is tradition, but it originally was scheduled for that time because of a concert. There's absolutely no reason for it to be in February anymore. At this point, it's kind of a retarded tradition.
but in the summer a lot of the same people go to frff, so it's a matter of spacing the visits over the year, one in summer--one in winter. this also often makes it easier to arrange time off work, I know that when I was working full-time, it was better to take a few days off in february and some time in july than to take some time in june and then again in july.
There is no better time. Aside from spring, summer, and fall.
Dates will be the weekend of February 17th. There are no plans for a meeting room this year. I think if we just rent a suite that will be fine. It would have been last year, actually. A reservation has not been made, but I'm not concerned. If for some reason the Comfort Suites can't accomodate us, there are plenty of hotels in TO where we can get a suite.
Maybe we ought to change the name Frucon to Fruparty? :)
Not gonna work. Lack of money and a house concert.
So come to NY.
Seeing as "Fruparty 9" is scheduled to take place in about a week...do we know a) if it's still happening, and b) which hotel we'll be at? Pauley and I were planning to reserve a room for ourselves for the weekend and should probably be looking into that about now or sooner.
I wanna meet you people! I've always regretted not getting into Fruvous when they were still touring and all the exciting stuff was going on.
(Yes we know there would be a two-story suite where we could sleep on, like, the floor or in the whirlpool bathtub or maybe if we were lucky even a sofa bed, but we're also celebrating Valentine's Day belatedly, and, y'know...also, if for some horrible reason Fruparty does not happen, we'll still be staying in Toronto for the weekend anyway.)
