Halloween Plans

It is time to start planning for Halloween. Have you made yours?
I'm going to see Christine Lavin and she said to come in costume. I'm planning on going as a representitive of The Church of the Flying Spaghetti Monster. I'm going to carry a model of the deity and dress in full pirate regalia. At my old place in the boonies we never got kids. except any year we gave up and didn't buy candy. then, of course, a kid or two would show up. There are SO many kids at our current apartment but there were surprisingly few visits last year. I think I got so much anxiety about answering the door last year that I put a bag of candy outside. Needless to say it was ALL gone the next morning. Sometimes I dress up for work. Dunno if I will this year.
probably going to a party over the weekend (hmm...must tell neal and chris we've been invited to a party) and dressing up either in my kaylee costume or as viola swamp from the miss nelson books, and la la la i love obscure halloween costumes.
We're going to a halloween party? Cool! Now to figure out a costume. I'm not sure if last year's will work in Chicago.
Nobody got my costume last year. I didn't think Magritte was that obscure.
But then again I've been very surprised lately to find out how many people I know at work have no idea what Pi is. Like, never heard of it. I think I live in a little bubble where I'm out of touch with the mainstream and I start to think y'all around here and I are the "normal". :)
Not a true one, but as close as I could find relatively cheaply. (see profile for pics)
That's great. I'd have gotten it immediately.
Thats a great idea Gordon. Take some pictures.
In our neighborhood there is one family that puts up a facade in front of their house. One year they did a castle theme, one year a alien space ship. They go all out with lighting, sound effects, and people dressed in appropriate costumes. The year they did the medieval theme they had some homemade mead which was excellent. We always check out their house on Halloween. Our next door neighbors don't celebrate Halloween. They think it is some form of satanic worship. It is too bad because they have two really nice kids who would enjoy it.
I would but I don't have a camera. If someone goes with me perhaps they'll have one. Maybe Christine will have hers.

A two-day Kenpo Seminar is that same weekend. Might go to a party on Friday night at someone's house, but other than that. I plan on spending Trick Or Treat day in the house with the lights off and the door locked and the goddamn doorbell disconnected.
Have I mentioned I hate Trick or Treat?

tons of little kiddies in the niehgborhood...we get easily over 100 kids. i'll be
Why did you stop then? Should I trick or treat after my classes? I have to walk about a mile. I'll be in costume, should I be ringing bells on the way? You know I really want to do that now.
I stopped because my friends all refused to go and aloneHalloweening is saaaaaaad. If you do go trick'r'treatin', you should definitely be ringing bells. BUT, acceptable times to go out are usually 6ish for youngin's and 7ish for the olda kids.
*sigh* I miss free candy.
It's not that I'm embarassed...it was never really my thing. Perhaps I'm a freak, but I never enjoyed Halloween all that much. *shrug*
Next time I'm in Philly for Halloween I'll invite you along. The pics on my profile starting at "Halloween at the Point" and ending with
"three wishes" were taken at in Philly Halloween 2003. We saw the Kennedys.

I LORVE Halloween. It's OMG awesome. This year, I'm going to be a cat lady. :oD
Going to our favorite karaoke bar for Halloween. Unfortunately, big Halloween party means a 1-song night.

my brother is now 13, so chances are he's either not going OR he won't really want me to go with him. if he wants me around i'll go out there.
if he doesn't really care well, then i'll probably go to my friend's house, her neighborhood always has a block party and she puts together all the stuff for the kidlins.

I bought this awesome greek-inspired top from Min.Imal, so I plan to go as a nymph, or something.
Of course, I need somewhere to go, but that's academic.

Seeing as I don't have any kids and that the kids here do weird things like place rocks in circles on my front door mat and lean their bikes on my door so they fall on me when I open it to leave for work, am I still obligated to buy candy to give out to these kids? Would I seem like a mean old lady if I didn't?
You should by one of those cruel people that sit very still and quiet on their front porch with a bowl of candy on your lap and a costume pretending to be a halloween decoration and jump up and scare the be-jeepers out of all the kids that come around. We live in a bit of a rough neighborhood and try to make a point to not be in halloween night...i've never felt bad not giving out candy in my neighborhood...in fact sometimes i just go to my parents or grandma and help them at their place

ok...the heck with the stupid people at my work...i'm either going as one of the Gumbys from Monty Python (with the knotted handkerchif and mustach and all) or Sakura from CardCaptors - this having an added bonus that there is also a costum contest at my local anime store....hmmm.........
