Get Fruvous on Jack

   Discussion: Get Fruvous on Jack
Ed Kowalczewski · 19 years, 5 months ago

Jack FM has got a pretty wide playlist for being a Corporate Station. They continually advertise that they don't take requests, but thay might or might not be true. If they get enough requests for a single song from multiple market locations, they might add it onto their list.

So. If enough of us request a moxy song from each city there is a Jack-FM station, we could possibly get it on a regular playlist.

Biggest question: Which song?

Opinions?

Wait a sec...

They advertise that they don't take requests, yet they have a request line?

I don't get it.

The Chicago version (104.3) has a comment line, but they don't take requests. This one is the Jack-FM (tm) station. "We Play What We Want."

The better Chicago version (99.9/92.5/92.7) has a comment line that doubles as a request line. This one just calls themselves Nine-FM. "We Play Anything."

Neither really deviates from the 70's and later rock/pop formats, but Nine has a token country song that changes every two months (roughly). Jackbothers me a bit because it still feels like a playlisted station and looks like a network. It seems to run counter to its entire purpose.

i'm sorry. fruvous on jack? i seriously doubt that's gonna happen. jack is corporate as all hell, as much as they like to present the "screw the authorities! screw everyone! we're so cool and rebellious and we play whatever we want!" attitude to lure in the 18-34-year-old male demographic. they don't take requests because everything is programmed and predetermined. they play the latest rock hits, and classic hits of the last 20 years, with the occasional guilty pleasure thrown in. they're not going to say, "wait a minute! i know we don't take requests, but how about this one? someone wants to hear a quirky pop song by an obscure independent canadian band that hasn't made a record in six years! LET'S DO IT!"

if you want to try and get your favorite musicians on the radio, concentrate your efforts where they're most likely to work. call your college radio stations, your independent community stations, your "adult alternative" stations. if i wanna hear fruvous on the radio, i'm not gonna call jack or the nine any more than i'd call a spanish language station or the smooth jazz station. i'm gonna call the rock station that's also been known to play tmbg and dar and andrew bird, i'm gonna talk to the guy at wluw who runs the folk show and who i've talked to before about how much fun fruvous are...but honestly, more likely, i'm going to call these stations and try to get them to play independent musicians who are still together, recording and touring.

Exactly, the whole point of Jack is to eliminate personalities. The mindset is that of elevator music.

One more place you can call to request Fruvous is your local public radio station if you are lucky enough to have one that plays something other than classical music and Jazz [Not that there is anything wrong with classical music or jazz. I listen to them both on public radio, those are just the two most common formats and public stations]. I first heard Fruvous on WFUV.

I do tend to plug artists that are still performing but every once in a while it is still nice to hear Fruvous pop up on the radio.

Our Jack Channel is Infinity broadcasting which is the rival of Clear Channel

If they were Clear Channel, then I doubt I would be listening to Howard Stern Every weekday morning.

Not all "jack" station are Part of Clear Channel just to clear that up.

They'll NEVEr play something because a ton of people request it. Jack is run by computers. If a nuclear war went off, the station would still be playuing its pre-programmed music.

Jack replaced the oldies station in NYC. Since then, their ratings have gone WAY down. The station stinks, and the sad thing is that you'll be seeing a LOT more stations like it since they don't have to pay anyone except the outsourced computer programmer.

Your comments are funny, since I've *heard* Fruvous on Jack. OK, it was like once, but they played KOS some morning a few months ago.

well, kos was a "hit" in canada, wasn't it? i doubt any of the jack stations in the u.s. would do that.
