Hurricane Katrina Relief Donations

   Discussion: Hurricane Katrina Relief Donations
Gordondon son of Ethelred · 19 years, 5 months ago
I thought it would nice if we had some links here to sites where fruheads can make donations to Hurricane Katrina relief. My links will go straight to the donation page.

A couple of Jewish Organizations:

I gave my donation to Second Harvest and my mother's to Mazon.

If anyone knows of organizations that are particularly efficient and trustworthy let us know.

I got this in the mail from Amy Speace

For the month of September, all the profits from sales of my CD's on www.cdbaby.com will go directly to The Red Cross Relief Efforts for Hurricane Katrina. 100% of what I would make off the sale of my CD (which comes out to about $12 per CD) go straight to helping out. So please go to www.cdbaby.com/amyspeace2 and buy a CD for a friend. And tell everyone about CDBaby. Derek Sivers, the president behind this company, is one of my personal hero's. A compassionate, generous, brilliant man.

Thanks.

Amy's music is great so if you want to buy some good music and help hurricane victims at the same time you know what to do.

same with Erin McKeown

a message from MS. MCKEOWN:
as many of you know, my latest record, We Will Become Like Birds, was made in New Orleans and was deeply affected in content, sound and magic by the people i met there and the city itself. in the last 6 months, i have said over and over again how perfect a place the city was for me to make this record in. for me, it was the over-riding memory of the entire experience: more than the writing, more than the work, it was my joy at coming to know the feeling of being in New Orleans that marked the time i put into this project. indeed, moving to the city was something i was seriously considering at the time of the hurricane.
i am so deeply sad for all the people now left homeless and in physical need by this storm. my love for New Orleans was new, theirs was their entire life. it goes without saying that we will all do as much as we can for a long time to aid in whatever ways possible. of my four albums, i only "own" my first, Monday Morning Cold, and i have arranged through cdbaby.com to donate all the profits from its sale to benefit the RedCross.

i know you all hate starbucks. and i know you probably NEVER ever would set foot in one. but if there are those of you who do venture in under mask and veil, they have set up a system where you can walk up to the register and donate to the fund.

i work there and the charitable work they do is rather amazing. say what you will about their coffee and their corporate influence... but they do some good for others.

I work for whole foods and they have it set up where you can done to the red cross at the registers. I wonder how many other companies are collecting money for them.

I know Petco has been doing a thing where when you checkout they ask if you want to round up to the nearest dollar and give that extra bit to pet rescue in NO. (You can give more than that rounding, incidentally) I like that because for most folks that extra 42cents or something is pretty irrelevant but if enough people do it it'll add up.

If you happen to be in the Boston area next Tuesday consider going to this benefit concert and meet me there ;)

my evil place of employment is apparently a huge sponsor of this event. I've volunteered to take 5 hours of calls unpaid tomorrow night... after my regular shift. but that's not the point, point is to call in if you haven't donated already. The number will open tomorrow at 7am & it is 866-424-3669

I set up a sister site to my regular website where part of the sales are being donated. One dollar from every item purchased, plus I match every dollar raised.

Hope ya'll check it out,
Hugs to all,
Sara
