Who's your favorite actor/actress?

I for one would literally worship the ground that Charlie Chaplin walked on if he was still alive. (it would be creepy and stalker-esque)
i also like Marlon Brando and Johnny Depp (maybe it's because in one of the first movies i saw of his, he played a character that was a total Chaplin copy. routines and everything!)
Who do you guys like?
There are so many. As I guess we are including dead actors my all time favorite is Bogart. Casablanca, The Maltese Falcon, The African Queen, and so many other classics. Nobody made as many great films.
Kate Hepburn is my favorite actress, she could do screwball comedies like Bringing up Babies, and historical dramas like The Lion in Winter, and everything in between. I love all your favorites too. Chaplin was a genre unto himself. A unique genius. Johnny Depp is probably my favorite contemporary actor. His old girlfriend Winona Ryder is my favorite actress. You have to throw Peter O'Toole in there someplace, nobody played a better Messiah. Have I mentioned Woody Allen? OK I'll stop now.
You stole my answer, i was gonna say Bogart and Hepburn, and give the same reasons. As far as contemporary actors go Dustin Hofman is probably near the to of my list along with Sean Connery, especialy for his later stuff like Hunt for Red October.
Hoffman and Connery are both on my list. I'd pick different Connery films though. My favorite non-bond films are underappreciated; Zardoz, Robin and Marion, and best of all The Man Who Would Be King. All from the 70s. TMWWBK is one of the greatest films of all time.
Current? Kevin Spacey, John Cusack, Nic Cage, William Petersen. Not that many actresses I'm a fan of though on the whole. (I'd have to second Gordon's mention of Bogie and Hepburn too)

I personally think, although being dangerously close to a character actor, Jeffery Coombs is pure gold. He was great in all versions of Star Trek, The Reanimator trilogy, and just about anything else he's done. I was very pleased to see his character on the 4400 apparentally set up for a semi-recurring role.
Likewise on the 4400, I think Joel Gretsch is a pretty good actor. Steve Carell is also probably one of my favorite comedy actors right now.
See, I have a hard time picking favourite actresses. I mean, are they my favourites because I think they're hot or because I think they're good actresses?
I, though, that in either case, I could pick Natalie Portman and Thora Birch, since they're both very talented, in addition to being super hot. I think I pretty much agree with all your actor picks (I know, flying pigs, hell freezing over, all that fun stuff), although I haven't seen enough with Gary Oldman to be able to judge. (although the contrast of Sirius Black to his character in Batman Begins is pretty telling about his versatility, I think :)
Watch Leon! There you get precocious Natalie Portman AND Gary Oldman chewing scenery! :)
Isn't Leon the European title? In the US it was called The Professional. Did they change it for Video release?
Both are released on DVD. Leon is the far superior release because a lot was cut from the Professional version. Therefore if I'm to recommend it, it's always going to be Leon I recommend. :)

How about Maurice LaMarche, and the late Lorenzo Music.
As for on-screen actors, I do like David Hyde Pierce. Particuarly his work in that episode of Friday XIII and the brief role he had in the second Eddie and the Cruisers movie. Of course, he used a stage name for those, but you could tell it was him ;-)

Ditto to Depp and Cusack for sure... I think Johhny Depp is brill-iant! I've gotten to see lots of other favorites on stage and they've impressed me tons... like David Hyde Pierce and Hank Azaria in Spamalot (Tim Curry rules, of course)... Gary Sinise is amazing, not so much on the TV stuff but on stage, WOW... Jeff Goldblum REALLY exceeded my expectations in the play he's doing on Broadway... I guess, though, right up there with Depp is Eugene Levy. He's done some DUMB movies, but the Christopher Guest movies really made me sit up and pay attention to him.
As far as actresses... whatever. I guess I like Kate Winslet. And Julianne Moore. For TV, the ladies of Frasier are great, both Jane Leeves and Peri Gilpin. Sara Ramirez from Spamalot is the only one I know I'd pay to see though.

for me it would take a while to think up a favourite actor (right now i'm indebted to seann william scott for making the dukes of hazzard for me; without him it would have been totally unbearable), but as for actresses, toni collette came to me right away.
i mean, muriel's wedding? about a boy? she rules. the paucity of women among peoples' votes makes me a bit sad. i guess the reason that people aren't picking a lot of women, is that it seems in hollywood today, in order to get lots of prominent roles as a woman you have to be the hot one, & if you are then you end up playing the same role a lot ("the hot one"). not to mention you have a pretty short shelf life. wow. that made me rather sadder. but it least it's someone else's fault :) You must first create an account to post.
