wandering minstrel-friendly camps

   Discussion: wandering minstrel-friendly camps
goovie is married! · 19 years, 9 months ago
besides the budgiedome, are there any other campsites that welcome guitar-wielding outsiders?
Misch Back · 19 years, 9 months ago
I'm sure there are, but we're way better than most camps that suck.
Brian Dinsky Back · 19 years, 9 months ago

Camp Hell.

AHAHAHA.

I keed you.

lawrence Back · 19 years, 9 months ago
you mean there are camps that don't? I thought that was kind of part of the point of upper camping...
goovie is married! Back · 19 years, 9 months ago
well, for instance, i'm pretty sure you have to be invited to play at the big orange tarp or tribes hill or camp hon.
Paul Back · 19 years, 9 months ago
camp happytown is one but I think you have to play tracy grammer/dave carter stuff
Josh Woodward Back · 19 years, 9 months ago
The Big Orange Tarp is the big one. Very formal and structured, though.
goovie is married! Back · 19 years, 9 months ago
well, yes. that's what i said about two comments above yours. :)

We always welcome nomadic musicians to play in a round or two (or more) at are very dimly lit song circle. You can just stop by and hop right in. :)

goovie is married! Back · 19 years, 9 months ago

Kris 'engaged' Bedient Back · 19 years, 9 months ago
well, I suppose he can have some slack for that. *grin*
goovie is married! Back · 19 years, 9 months ago
i definitely want to hit the camp dar song circle this year, especially since i wussed out last year.
John J. Ryan Back · 19 years, 9 months ago
Camp Hon? But yeah, you have to hae some sort of "in" to play those camps.
goovie is married! Back · 19 years, 9 months ago
camp hon=the baltimore songwriters association camp. so i'm not sure if only members can play there, or what...
ChrisChin is Getting Old Back · 19 years, 9 months ago
um, yeah, it was 2:38AM and I was so exhausted that I didn't even notice. Though I feel even more tired now and I still have 3 more hours of work to go through. *sigh*

Everytime I see this forum I get earwormed with Gilbert and Sullivan. I also get a demonic knowledge of law.

goovie is married! Back · 19 years, 9 months ago
when you drive up the hill, they're along the road, past happytown and flamingo ridge, but before you get to the burned out hippies and the gfp.

and the bsa has a site, but it hasn't been updated in ages.
Andrea Krause Back · 19 years, 9 months ago
I somehow love that I'm in a community where you can give directions like that. :)
nate... Back · 19 years, 9 months ago
heh, yeah, totally.

burned out hippies and the gfp? the gfp has families, children, teenagers, etc. howver, we do have conehead, too. anyway - there is usually a song circle there every night, with some of our own "emerging artists," who are starting to get real gigs, and established performers like we're about 9, Friction Farm, Nick Annis, Annie Wenz, Cadence Carroll, Kellie Lin Knott and others. pros and amateurs mix in. unlike the dome, we rarely have a performer do awhole set, except perhaps on thursday afternoon when things are slow, like we did with the Kennedys last year. Anyone is welcome.
ChrisChin is Getting Old Back · 19 years, 7 months ago
perhaps the burned out hippies and the gfp are two separate entities? Not sure, as I've never been that far up upper camp, something I should probably try to work on this year.
goovie is married! Back · 19 years, 7 months ago
i was referring to two separate entities, thanks. the burned-out hippies are on the opposite side of the road from the gfp, and they have a surplus of vw vans, "WE MISS JERRY" signs, and radios blaring bad classic rock.
Bender Back · 19 years, 7 months ago
I'd probably fit in there very well, sadly.

My scary secret talent is my ability to accurately tell the year of a live Grateful Dead recording with an average margin of error of about 8 months.
