Greatest Hits albums that don't suck.

I know they're generally looked down on by purists. But there are some Greatest Hits albums that are just heaven to me. One of them is Crowded House's Recurring Dream, which I've had on repeat for about the last week.
Any others you can think of that don't suck?
The first album I ever got was Simon and Garfunkel's Greatest Hits. I still think it is a great album.
Worst of Jefferson Airplane is a great one too. I see nothing wrong with Greatest hits albums of bands that you really only want the hits.
Am I going to be forever scorned if I say I like the Beatles 1 album?
Best of U2 1980-1990 (I think those are the years) is good too.
My favorite contraction is "'sblood" for God's Blood.
how about "zounds!" for God's Wounds?
marvel's thor always went around saying that, it was quite un-pagan of him.
I never realized that was the origin of Zounds. makes sense though.
I like Thor saying that, a nice irony. In James Branch Cabell's, Teh Silver Stallion, Donander, A christian knight through a mix up in the afterlife becomes a Norse god. He is a believer in the cult of Manuel, a character in Cabell's books. Cabell said, in the end the only believer in Manuel was Donander, but Donander was god. I always liked that.

his Very Best Of has gotten a lot of mileage in my cd player. And I, too, love Recurring Dream.
My problem is that if I start w/ a greatest hits CD of a band, I sometimes find it hard to make the leap to buying the back catalog of albums, since I figure I already own the music in one form already... which is probably why I don't own more Elvis Costello CDs than I do.

I second Elvis, Crowded House, and Matthew Sweet (I also like to listen to his Early Recordings collection to hear the phase before he got really good, interesting hooks he wrote early on).
Also: Stevie Wonder's Definitive Collection is a pretty great retrospective. TMBG's Dial-a-Song is decent for folks like me who enjoy them but aren't hardcore. Same goes for Robyn Hitchcock's greatest hits. Tears Roll Down is a good Tears for Fears collection IMO. Very Best of Cat Stevens I like, it has a couple of the really early songs... hm. Oh, and the Bee Gees. I like to listen to hyper stuff like that while taking a walk. That's about all I can think of right now.

Not gonna lie, living on LI makes a girl love her Billy Joel, and his greatest hits volume 1 and 2 package set is pretty damn impressive.
Has anyone had a look at the Legendary Sun Records three-CD new release? I picked it up in London a few weeks ago and its a ton of hard-to-find, old school rock and roll. We're talking early-Elvis fun. Its really entertaining if you at all into that rough, old-record sound. And I agree on Stevie Wonder.

....you mean she had more than one of them?
but seriously....Simon and Garfunkle's "Old Friends" collection is pretty good as well as Billy Joel's collection (the box set has all 3 greatest hits albums plus a Q and A session). Richard says Sqeeze's album "45s and Under" wasn't bad either.
I have the "Old Friends" box, It's in my CD player a lot, especialy disc 3.

BNL's Disc One is quite good too, right down to the track order.
