In February 2005, The National Post printed an article about the status of the CBC, in which it was suggested that Ghomeshi has become displeased with his current role at the CBC. The article also mentioned rumours of tension between Ghomeshi and CBC's newest host George Stroumboulopoulos. It was also suggested that he is upset with CBC's decision to promote Stroumboulopoulos as its "new hip talent," and giving Stroumboulopoulos more edgy pieces, while he has been delegated more "light and fluffy" arts and culture pieces.

Well, he may be displeased with the CBC, but the CBC is awfully displeased with him as well. >play did not deliver. At all. It was supposed to draw the young audience to Newsworld. It didn't. The Hour, frankly, is a better show, promoted better, and doesn't look like it was produced by high school students. Gifted high school students, granted, but...

The CBC generally doesn't fire outright, but delegating someone to segments on mid-morning radio shows is a pretty good sign that the individual is probably not on the best terms with them.

The look and feel of the show was hardly Jian's fault. He was just the talent. He didn't produce the show. I thought he did a marvelous job fitting into the quirky weirdness that was >play. Jian was just being Jian. If he didn't connect to "today's youth" that is a casting issue for the producer. Jian is pretty good in front of an audience. He's funny and has a good presence. I don't think CBC knows what the heck to do with Newsworld, or what it wants to do with Jian, however, it seems clear to me that CBC needs Jian a lot more than he needs them. He's put his music career on hold to do this TV stuff, and if they keep fucking with him, he has somewhere to go. They have to sink or swim where they are.

Dave's the between scenes entertainment with Maury Lafoy of The Supers. Though he's been on the show in the distant past, right now he's a studio musician currently there. (And a darn good one I might add, the audiences love them :D)

I didn't think it was ever a youth-aimed show.
I would have guessed the target demographic as being more 25-35. Maybe it's a US/Canada thing, but the cultural emphasis (celebrating pop and so-called "high" culture together), and the bar/restaurant setting is not the kind of thing to draw in the youngsters so much as the artists and academics.

The average newsworld viewer typically is on their second set of dentures ;P

As for the age thing, I thought he turned 34 in 2004?� I remember reading an interview on his website that stated he was 33 in 2003.� Not that it really matters...could he have been born twice???

He enjoys long walks on the beach, cooking, reading long difficult books, and lying about his age.

i keep fighting with this one person about his age and changing it back to 1967.� Murray's the youngest and was born in 1967, after Jian.� Says so on fruvous.com.� I find it funny because back when he and i were friends, he once cracked a joke about how he was 16 years older than me....i'm 22 now, he's goin to be 38 this year.

I wonder how long I'll keep battling this person...for all i know it's Jian himself :)

Just to play devil's advocate here, but is it possible that in the early days Jian fudged his age upwards, in the belief that maybe he'll be taken more seriously if his age was in line with the rest of the guys?

The only thing that makes me really think he was born in 1970 was that he graduated from York University with a BA�in 1995(http://www.yorku.ca/yfile/archive/index.asp?Article=1851) if he was born in 70 he would have been�25...but if he was born in 67 he would have been 28, granted he could have taken time off between high school and university....why do I even care...I guess that's what being home sick on a saturday does!!!!

Jian and Dave were born in 1967. This is not a matter of opinion. It isn't something we have to discuss. We know their ages from their own mouths. Suggesting that he might have been lying about his age to appear older is silly. If he were 3 years younger, how would he have been able to be in high school with Dave and Murray? It is completely absurd to think he could possibly be that young. On the other hand, he IS vain enough to have lied about his age NOW.

It isn't vanity, he has just reached that age where one begins to forget things :-)
