Dream home

   Discussion: Dream home
Bender · 20 years ago
If I ever become a billionaire, I have my dream home all worked out.

It's going to be a sprawling, one-level home. There will be a lazy river (like in a water park) running through each room. There will be bridges, so floating from room to room and walking are both options.

Doug insists that we have three handles on each tap: hot, cold, and vodka.

Del will have an indoor rainforest with lots of bells.

I can't think of much more right now, but I will. Oh, I will.

How about you guys?

billionaire, eh? well, let's see...

all the normal living areas would be, well, normal. I can't think of anything really extravagant to do to say, a bedroom or a bathroom other than get 1000 thread count sheets for the bed or have a jacuzzi big enough for four people.

it's the extra stuff that would be fun.

there'd be a movie theater - really just a large entertainment room, with soft, comfy couches and reclining chairs and the best sound system imaginable... and projection capable of playing film or dvd. and video games. because really, who wouldn't want to play vintage NES games on a 100 foot screen? :)

there'd be another room with a reasonably large stage and good sound system for house concerts. actually, maybe this would be the room modeled after the Great Hall at Hogwarts. And it would be decorated in the Gryffindor colours. and the ceiling would be glass, so you could see the sky.

there would also be an outdoor area large enough for concerts, too.

and the studio. a real music studio with top of the line equipment for everything and dual G5s for Protools.

there would be a server room, but not that many servers. at the very least, there'd be a dedicated machine for each room in the living areas of the house that would serve mp3s from a shared library. every room would have controls for this so I could play anything I wanted anywhere in the house. hell, every room would also have a small flatpanel monitory and a fold-down keyboard so I could check on news and weather and livejournal whenever and wherever the urge struck me.

and there would be a library. not large, because I don't have a whole lot of books. but if I had that kind of money, I'd probably start acquiring them.

there would be two dining rooms. one normal, and one with a hibachi grill that could also be adapted for fondue. why go to restaurants when you can bring them to you?

and, of course, the fire room. picture a large, circular room with stone walls and floor and a large pool of water in the center and a stone platform, maybe 10 feet in diameter, in the middle of the pool. 20 feet above that it will open to the sky for ventilation. in this room, I can burn things. to see how they burn. to see the colours they make. to see how they melt or disintegrate or char. and if something gets out of control, I can just let it burn on the platform while I safely cross the water to the outer area.

yes. fire. yum.

I always have wanted to live in an old ballet studio, or renovated warehouse. I love the high ceilings and open floor plan. It would be neccesary to build in some sound proof bedrooms, but otherwise, use the furniture to partition off little areas and groupings. Put the kitchen in a corner, but a big corner. I'd have to have a corner of the building though, because I need lots of light, big windows, high ceilings. All of the furniture would be on wheels so I could move it easily, to roll away for a party, or just to change the lay out. that would be fun.

4 things in my dream house:

1. a library/study. Ideally with a rolling ladder

2. a ballroom.

3. a meyer lemon tree

4. the complete OED
Andrea Krause Back · 20 years ago

I can't think of the rolling ladders without thinking of the song/routine from bedknobs and broomsticks.

See, and *I* read it the first time as "rolling bladder".

I was like, "ummm..."

I want #1 too. I always loved teh wall to wall books nd the rolling ladder.

The complete OED (full sized edition) goes without saying. As does the Encyclopedia Brittanica. Which leads to another forum, "essential reference books."

I need one of those rolling ladder/bookwalls for my cds...
Gordondon son of Ethelred Back · 20 years ago
Don't remind me, I need a new CD case.

Actually my dream house includes a room with a 10,000 CD changer that I store all my CDS in. There is a specially acoustically designed listening room with a lazyboy and control panel in the perfect listening spot. I might as well steal a page of George Costanza's playbook and have a mini-fridge built into the chair.
