fruvous officially defunct?

It this has topic has been done already sorry. As it has been approximately two years since any moxy fruvous activity as in touring has the hiatus turned into a breakup and end to the band? Have the members ever discussed reuniting or resuming touring? I would like to see them live but the chance of that looks pretty slim.
The topic has been done already. But that's ok.
The official word is, and always has been, a hiatus. There's never been any official-sounding (or even unofficial-sounding) notification or announcement of the demise of Moxy Frvous as a band.
As ambiguous as it is, what you see is what you get. :-/ *shrug*

Thanks for the info. I guess they haven't made any decision.

well... since murray has his own bio page on the GBS website I would assume they're considering him a full-time member of the band.. and since GBS is a reasonably big-time band that wouldnt' leave him time to do any fruvousing
http://www.greatbigsea.com/theband/murray.cfm
It really is more of a case of Murray playing with GBS than being part of them. On the CD he is not listed as a band member but someone playing on the tracks. He has a contract to play bass with them as opposed to being an actual band member.

Yeah, but if Murray really wanted to get back to Frvous (and his People), he'd find time. Never give up hope, people!
(I'm also still waiting on another Hum reunion, since I missed the last one.)
Also, there's no reason someone can't be part of two bands.
One idea that has been talked about around here (not by any band members) is that when (if) Frvous records again, it might be only that. They have done some recording together since the haitus, and there are plenty of great bands who do not tour at all.
I'd love to hear them again, and I do believe that if they were sure that the band was done, they would say so. That said, it doesn't matter too much either way. They are all happy in what they are doing, and they are all doing what they want. I'd rather see them that way than as a band tired of touring.

See, this is where my opinion differs from yours. I love Früvous, but I always thought their recordings sounded weak in comparison to their live shows. I would rather see them stage a concert series in Toronto than have them come out with another album.
I do like them more live, although there are some songs (like almost all of Wood) which are much better as part of an album. I think that an all-studio Frvous would be completly different than what they were as a touring band.

Yeah, but he's also in The Jane Waynes (http://www.thejanewaynes.com), so that doesn't mean anything. GBS doesn't tour ALL the time. Murray being in GBS is certainly NOT the biggest obstacle to a Fruvous resumption.
Actually, the Jane Waynes are no more - they had their farewell concert a few weeks ago.
I also have it on good authority that Murray is going to be part of another band when he's done with touring (actually, I thought they were supposed to start work this past fall). Busy man, that Murray Foster!
but with a remarkably orderly refrigerator!

Well, he's gotta eat.
Those Fruvous residuals won't last forever, you know.
Well... overheard this past Wednesday on CBC Radio, when J and host Alan Neal were discussing 50 tracks and Jann Arden:
"Back in the mid-90s, when I was in a band called Moxy Fruvous..."
Read into it what you will.
that's troubling to me. i dunno why, i don't even know quite what what it means, but my gut tells me i should be troubled. anyone else have the same feeling?

so they're not getting back together. there are other bands out there, and you can still appreciate the music on their albums and other recordings.
yeah, i get it.
.....but.....it's easier for you to say than me. put yourself in my shoes. i mean, you guys all rode the whole fr-wave, so to speak. you've been there, done that.

No, I know what it's like.
I'll never get to see the Grateful Dead. I'll never get to see The Band. I'll never get to see Rex Harrison in My Fair Lady or Richard Burton in Camelot.
It does make me a little sad, yes. However, I don't see any reason to feel mournful. There are too many wonderful things going on now to mourn the past.
Yup.. and I never got to see the doors, either.
Sucks, but... honestly? when you don't know what you're missing, it's not quite as bad. :)

heh. amen, brother.
i'll never see james. *sob*
Did you never see them? I'd always assumed you had. I'm still kicking myself for missing my chance.
*shrugs*
The band broke up and went their seperate ways some time ago.
I don't think anyone REALLY thinks they're just on hiatus... if they get back together, it'll just be a nice surprise.

if they get back together, it'll just be a nice surprise.
...but I'm not holding my breath.
i know, i know. *sigh*
i'm still good though. i have many other things to do, places to go, people to see, and whatnot.
and you all are awesome, so that's one upside to this.
(note the sappyness cause i'm on NyQuil, which doesn't make me sleepy, but sorta loopy.)

really? thanks. i'm honored. *blush*
noone that i don't know has ever told me that they would buy me lunch
I don't think anyone REALLY thinks they're just on hiatus...
I dunno, they seem to really think they're on hiatus. I think the reason they probably insist that they're still on hiatus is more to convince themselves of it than their fans, for whatever reason.
the funny thing is that if they did plan on one day playing again, they could make it a much bigger event by officially announcing that they won't do it, and then have whole 'reunion tour' or something.
Well, thinking they are on hiatus is not the same as thinking they are on a short hiatus.
To me, hiatus means that the band hasn't broken up, there are just no plans to do anything right now. Maybe there never will be plans, maybe there will be. I'd love to hear more from them, but then again, with no money to see them if they were on tour, I don't think I'd personally be hearing a whole lot more anyways.
When/if we update the FAQ, I think we're going to need to devote the first half of it to the hiatus. Which seems a little odd to me, but it really is the most asked question around here.
Does anyone know, if there were an updated FAQ, would there be a way to get it posted over a FDC. I think most info-seeking folks find their way over here anyways, but it would still be nice to see something a bit more current over there.

i know. to me, that's akin to the phrase "back in the day." like, "yeah, when i was a young chappy..."
eew...i'm glad i didn't hear that. May i ask what he said next; what he said happened or whatever "back in the mid-90s"?

If you want to learn to troll, the key is to be very relaxed. You can't seem agitated or appear to care at all. That's what really gets people angry.
You have to figure out how to piss people off indirectly. A great way is to offer "advice" in a condescending manner.
There's a true art to trolling, sweetie.
Dan

What in fact is trolling? and are you trolling me now because you are offer "advice" in a condescending manner.? I would rather not be called sweetie by a woman who dances with a plastic inflatable alien. I hope you don't mind.

ah we dont need jian. ringo can replace his drums and paul can replace his vocals! see? the Frutles is parfait. : ) even if jian is the only one who doesnt wanna get back together, a five piece wouldn't be so bad now would it? ringo doesn't really have to do anything! yesterday... all my fruvous seemed so far away...

Interestingly enough, the other three are doing a bunch of things together and going to each other's gigs while Jian is out in the wilderness struggling against being completely shut out by the CBC.
What he says is only 1/4 of the story, and in my opinion it's sadly the least informed and most isolated quarter.
Meanwhile, Hugo is apparently still alive and kicking! :D
...which is exactly why i've never expected to see fruvous with jian again. he's too tied up in all that cbc stuff, fruvous seems a century ago to him. i would be just as happy if just the other three got back together then if all four. at least i wouldn't have tohear I Will Hold On at my first 'fruvous' concert. hahaha. murray should join mike for all his shows. that'd be good enough for me. i love mike and murray. and they could still have dave show up for a few songs at all the shows. i just wanna see murray at home.
