it just seems that I can get more utensils to fit in that way. Plus, I was scared of getting cut by knives.
well, weve already had, how do you hang your toilet paper.

I always put them heads up. Mostly because I was trained that way. :) But I think part of it is I fear the fork tines will go through the grated bottom and interfere with the twirly thing. Also, I figure the heads are the dirty parts and need to be unsheltered by the basket to get the best cleaning.
This logic of course doesn't hold for drying racks because at that point they're already clean. But I've been lucky enough to have always had a dishwasher. And when I DO wash dishes by hand I just towel dry them and put them away.

I grew up stacking everything down, but then decided that it didn't make sense as far as cleaning efficacy and space efficiency. So I've switched to knives down, and everything else up.

Since I'm a loser who works in the restaurant industry, I was told a long time ago that one must point the business ends of the utensils upwards to ensure proper cleanliness*thumbs up*
