I wear them to protect against sun, cold and wind..... but I also wear, like, my *nice* hats out. When it's a special occasion.

There are very different categories of hats.

renita Back · 20 years, 4 months ago
exactly.
George E. Nowik · 20 years, 4 months ago

iPauley Back · 20 years, 4 months ago
sorta same here -- I wear them to avoid fiddling with my hair if I'm in a hurry. but otherwise because I like their appearance.

My fedora is teh stylin. ;)

Eri Back · 20 years, 4 months ago

It -is- teh stylin', and it looks good on me. Have photo evidence to prove it, somewhere.

(That was yours, wasn't it? I'm gonna sound like teh dumbness if it wasn't!)

;-)

iPauley Back · 20 years, 4 months ago
as much as I'd probably giggle for some reason if you sounded like teh dumbness, yes, that was mine. :-D

I always, always wear a kerchief. I feel very self-conscious without one.
sheryls · 20 years, 4 months ago
i can wear a hat if i'm running out just after i woke up because a)i dont care what my hair looks like and b) my hair is dry.

i prefer earmuffs or ear-wraps in the winter because my hair is usually wet and in a ponytail in the morning, because i'm afraid of blow-dryers.
renita Back · 20 years, 4 months ago
i hate blow dryers too!!!

i don't understand my hair stylist, she likes to comment on how my hair is so healthy, but then she wants me to blow dry it and colour it. *boggle*

mee too
sheryls Back · 20 years, 4 months ago

see. not only does it damage my hair (the only damage my hair has is the dye) but i'm all thumbs. i look like i'm on crack when i blow dry it. i get terrible flyaways and if i try to put any of the cremes or waxes or balms on my hair that the stylist does, i just turn into a greaseball. with flyaways. greasy flyaways.

but the stylist? can always make it look great :/ what's up with that? today i went for "i can style this wet and it will dry nice" :P

i was thinking of going with this haircutnext. would dry quicker :P

renita Back · 20 years, 4 months ago
that haircut is sexeh. but would require styling.

it looks like it would anyway :/
Andrea Krause Back · 20 years, 4 months ago

Why afraid? Not wanting crispy hair or like, actual fear? :)

I never ever ever ever ever blowdry my hair. I don't like to damage it any more than I have to. Never blowdry, very rarely use "product"....it gets damaged sometimes when I get in the mood for a color change but I'm letting that rest indefinitely because I'm sick of changing. :)

sheryls Back · 20 years, 4 months ago
because it makes me look awful. my flyaways go into full force and it gets really unmanagable :/
goovie is married! Back · 20 years, 4 months ago
i hate, hate, hate blow-drying my hair, but i've been doing it lately because it really seems to be the best way to keep it from frizzing out and making me look like an evil clown.
Michael (foof) Maki · 20 years, 4 months ago
My head is big and round. Wearing anything other than the most unstylish thermal cap just accentuates how big and round my head is. :-)
mim · 20 years, 4 months ago
At least I think so. Fedoras and those caps... I'm a fan. I'm currently looking for a grey fedora with a floppy brim... I'm in NYC, I should be able to find it, yes?

(Hey, Sheryls... have you tried (a) a little bit of light mousse instead of a gel, or (b) spray wax? That stuff can hold my hair straight which is a superhuman feat. I've got TONS of madd curly hair, so I can't just blow it straight... when I do, I look like I stuck my finger in an electrical socket. A ceramic straightener and spray wax do the trick.)
sheryls Back · 20 years, 4 months ago

i have a ceramic straightner, but no spray wax - i just hate the feeling products have! i'll try mousse - i was using gel for a while, that helped, but..

the girl at my salon uses tea tree oil on me, but i'm allergic to it and cant wear it often o.O

renita Back · 20 years, 4 months ago
have you tried lanolin oil?

i'm using coconut oil right now. but i have to be VERY careful.

my hair has to be wet or damp, and i have to use just the teeniest bit. or else it turns into an oilslick. :p

however, it works GREAT. and is super cheap, big ass tub cost me a whole five CDN dollars.
sheryls Back · 20 years, 4 months ago

hmm, no, i havent! i wonder where i pick up coconut oil...maybe at the natural food store. dunno. o.O

i have an expensive pomade but i have trouble using Just the Teensiest Amount because it never feels right :/ i dunno, i'm just hair-stupid :(

Bender Back · 20 years, 4 months ago
be proud of your curly hair!!! :)
Gordondon son of Ethelred · 20 years, 4 months ago
I pretty much always wear hats to protect my head from the elements. About the only time I don't wear one outdoors is when there is mild weather and it is overcast or night. Even then I'll wear my Mets cap if I'm going to a game.

I wear them for practical reasons but I also like the way they look on me. They keep what little hair I have under control.
Kat Kunz Back · 20 years, 4 months ago

dood, I *so* knew you submitted this poll, and I know you had to have been thinking of me at frucon3 for at least half of that last answer. :D

for what it's worth, I have nowembraced hats for when it's reallysupercold, because that old adage about losing a lot of heat through your scalp is quite on the mark, and I tend to be cold most of the time. not such a fan of them the rest of the year.

Gordondon son of Ethelred Back · 20 years, 4 months ago
Of course I thought of you when I submitted this :-)
Jºnªthªn · 20 years, 4 months ago
I'd kill for hat hair. Any kind of hair actually
goovie is married! · 20 years, 4 months ago
i wear hats whenever i'm going to be out in the sun for a lengthy period of time; otherwise, it's sunburn and heat exhaustion city for me. other than that, tho, i left my blossom phase behind a long time ago.
meh · 20 years, 4 months ago
I love hats!
I arguably have a weakness for hats.
Goofy hats, stylish hats, ballcaps, cowboyish hats, fedora-ish hats, bowler-ish hats...

Yay hats!
sheryls Back · 20 years, 4 months ago

i used to have a hat that was like a ballcap with no brim?

it made me look like a penis!

that's right. i said penis. :P

meh Back · 20 years, 4 months ago
*giggle*

I will try very hard to to append the name I think of you as to "Sheryl with the penis-hat."
sheryls Back · 20 years, 4 months ago

the penis hat is long gone! given to the salvation army when i moved ;)

..or maybe i gave it to my co-workers daughter - i'm not sure :)

i gave away about 90% of my belongings in the past year and a half. t'was fun :P

sheryls Back · 20 years, 4 months ago

wait.

what was the name you think of me as before???

meh Back · 20 years, 4 months ago
Heheh.

Wouldn't you like to know...

'tis generally something 'long the lines of "Sheryl of the midnight cooking"

i have so little hair that hat-hair is a near impossibility for me... though it's growing out now. note to self: remedy that.

i have a moxy fruvous baseball cap that i wear a lot indoors, and a knitted cap for outdoors. i also have a top hat that i actually wear sometimes.

then there's my kippah, which i wear to shul, and when i teach hebrew school.
Heartbreak sucks · 20 years, 4 months ago
I thank jebus for the winter time. I can get away with wearing beanies and my knit caps more often.

I need a fedora. Is it kosher for ladies to wear fedoras? ;)
Bender Back · 20 years, 4 months ago
Totally!

I'm all about fedoras and I want one or twenty very badly.
Real-Accordion! · 20 years, 4 months ago
I wear hats. A lot. And they're always really big. and kind of weird.
I wear them when I go for walks mainly to keep my hair out of my face and to keep me warm. And maybe because I haven't showered that day.
I actually have a hard time cleaning my room because of the hats in it. I mean, I've got like. more than six hats in there. (a big fuzzy yellow one that lights up, a santa hat, a black fuzzy hat, a fisherman's rainhat, a baseball cap that says "canEHdian", one that makes my head look like a snowball, and a bunch of other ones that are really just fabric that my friend sewed together for me.) I usually end up wearing them. All at once. And a pink feather boa and a bedsheet as a cape, and a bandana so I look like a bandit. Or an eyepatch. Or sunglasses. Or something else.
My room is really. Really messy. I never get to clean it.

But I wear the giant yellow one or the santa hat almost daily. I actually bought the giant yellow one so I wouldn't have to wear my santa hat everyday because it begins to smell like cheese.

I suppose I look good in them too.
Gordondon son of Ethelred Back · 20 years, 4 months ago
I looked at the pic, loved tha that, but I have one question. What do you feed it?
Real-Accordion! Back · 20 years, 4 months ago
Hair and batteries. And sometimes a cat.
100% dainty! · 20 years, 4 months ago
ooh!!

I like the berets, because there are so many different ways to wear them.

I also have a black velvet "Blossom-style" hat with a huge velvet rose in the middle. I love it.

I like newsboy caps, floppy straw sun hats, and knit caps. I used to have a Russian fur winter hat in sixth grade. Everyone made fun of me for it, but it rocked so hard. :)
