New TV

   Discussion: New TV
Andrea Krause · 20 years, 5 months ago

Ok I know I should be all above TV and stuff so bear with me. Are there any new shows this year that you'd recommend and think would be worth checking out? There's so much crap out there but what new things are promising? What do you wish other Fruheads would give a shot to? (Ugh, horrid sentence)

Me...

Jack & Bobby (WB)is decent. It's definitely watchable but I don't know if I'd be upset if I missed an ep. But in comparison to a lot of stuff out there? Worth recommending.

I can't recommend Veronica Mars (UPN, wtf??) enough. It came out of nowhere for me and just...kicks ass. The titular character? Awesome.

Agreed on Jack & Bobby. I taped dr. vegas (CBS, with Rob Lowe and Joe Pantoliano) last friday, and Lost last Wednesday, but haven't watched either yet, so I can't tell you if it's any good yet. Everything else on my recording list are returning shows. If I were inspired enough (of if someone else is), that could be another thread.

On the SciFi side of things, I like Stargate Atlantis, I think they've had a good first few episodes. Also, coming in January is the new series of Battlestar Galactica which looks to be really good judging by the miniseries last year.

After last night I have to add Kevin Hill as promising.

It's a battle for me watching this because I'm really squeamish. But I can't avoid the pull of the marvelous Gary Sinise. That and Last Comic Standing (videotape and fast forward through a lot of that though) are the only shows I will be bothering with. And maybe Smallville if I just need something to drool at.

CSI:NY is promising. Miami is such a disappointment because Caruso's character (or he himself, I have no idea) is such a smarmy irritating self-important knowitall who should get an electric shock every time he puts his hands on his hips to stand in front of people and seem badass.

Um. Yeah. Sorry. I just hate that character so much it ruins the show for me. Sinise's character is actually appealing.

I was very disappointed in CSI:NY the premire. Had very little substance to it and none of the zest that the CSI franchise brings to television. I'm waiting though on the next few episodes because I like Gary Sinise.

Miami is good when Caruso's character is not the focus of the whole episode. We have a drinking game though. Take one drink every time Caruso removes and replaces his sunglasses. Take a whole drink whenever he says to a viction "He is never ever going to hurt you again, okay?". Detective Frank Tripp is rapidly becoming my favorite character on there. "You little cracker, I've about had it with your minstral act!"

I agree on CSI:NY. Sinise and Kanakarides were fine, but the crimes struck me as so outlandish and grotesque and contrived as to be an urban legend -- not worthy of the CSI franchise. If that's all they could come up with for a heavily-promoted premiere, I can't imagine what other lurid, weird, and just plain weak stories they've got in the pipeline.

AND CSI: MIAMI KILLED LUCAS! YOU BASTARDS!

must watch empire records this weekend... *grumble*

Andrea Krause Back · 20 years, 5 months ago

Heheh...weird...I didn't even recognise them as the same actor until you said that. And then I was all like "DUH, of course!" :)

Starfox Back · 20 years, 5 months ago
Holy crap! I hadn't noticed that! Good pick!

*goes to grab his DVD of Empire Records*

Yeah, it's about 40 plus odd people on a remote island who survive a plane crash. There's something big and scary living on said island. And it has Dom as a bass player from a crappy rock band. The pilot was awesome and just sucked you in from the beginning. I'm not sure how the creators will sustain the suspense and intrigue of the first ep, but I'm going to tune in each week and see. Damn you JJ!! (JJ Abrahms, that is, creator of Felicity and Alias).

I'm really upset that I missed the first one...I was really looking forward to it. I'll watch the second and hope I can get right in.

I wasn't expecting to like this one, but I'm really digging it. It plays out more like a movie as far as how the show is put together. The end of episode 2 gave me shivers, and I'm usually the wiseass who tries to guess the plot twists in advance.

I didn't see the pilot and was disappointed by this week's episode based on what I heard here. Perhaps it is because I didn't know the characters.
Andrea Krause Back · 20 years, 5 months ago
This week wasn't really as exciting as the others. Not a problem if you're already hooked in, but I can see how it wouldn't have been one to do the hooking.
