Adopted sayings

   Discussion: Adopted sayings

What sayings/phrases/etc. do you use a lot that you have no good reason for having picked up so thoroughly. Not really music/movie references, because that goes with fandom. ANd not really stuff you pick up from friends because it seems things get passed really easily in friend groups.

I was just thinking about it because I realize I often say "that bites the wax tadpole" and really the only exposure I have to the phrase is learning it was the way coca cola was accidentally translating in an asian country. It just caught my eye and entered my usage. There's no real compelling reason for it.

I think I said this in another thread...

I sometimes say "to quote Abraham Lincoln..." which means, "Fuck 'em!"

i usually let people know what something in particular is sucking on. it's usually some sort of animal testicular suckage.

"that sucks major monkey nuts"

"that sucks serious baboon balls."

maybe i'm just an "f'in beasitiality nut."

"all kinds of", as in "that's all kinds of wrong" or "I'm all kinds of sparkly". not sure where I got it from

referring to bad traffic as "resistance"

um.

and stuff.

i call starbucks "starbox" because i heard my sister-in-law call it that once (she speaks with a slight russian accent), & i thought that was a much better name.

but then, without meaning to, i find myself calling dollars (bucks) "box."

i actually mispronounce all kinds of words wrong because other people have mispronounced them cutely.

theres many sayings i have had in my life, its like every month or so theres something else i say alot. unless otherwise mentioned, these came from my own head.
heres some i can remember:
'pile of humans' i dont know in How i used it, but i used it.
'eat food' as in 'oh go eat food' or 'that eats food'
'you big dummy' i would say this cause it sounded funny and never fit properly in any circumstance that it could be used.
i currently refer to everything not-good as 'garbage' and i dont know why!!! i cant stop!
but some time soon ill come up with something new that will catch on.
i wish i could remember more.... well if i do, ill post. i know there was one a few months ago that shortly after i stopped saying it a friend of mine started saying it and then eventually i started saying it again haha but i dont know what it is.

ha! we had a CS prof at BGSU refer to everything as garbage. and "Wah" instead of "wow."

"wah, this is garbage!"

sometimes, to save time and propegate my laziness, i type phonetically, like yer instead of your/youre, etc. and i say and type sitch instead of situation. i also type aboot instead of about, i just think it's a funny canadianism. i have other sayings and stuff too, i just cant think of them right now. im going to the store to buy fudge right now and my mind is on that :D

I said this one day .. and for the life of me I don't know why. I don't usually use language like this, but I was feeling a bit snarky.

I said, to a wasp or a mosquito or some annoying bug:

F*** you AND your rocketship. Heh.

i picked up one very sinilar to that in college. my best friend, Jenn came up with, "f*ck me with a chainsaw."

the sayingwe use most at work around the older folks who don't like the flying f bomb, "all balled up." it's very useful.

there are dozens more, but most are quotes from TV, songs or movies.

Are you sure she didn't get that from Heathers? (dunno the chronology of when you were in college.) One of the most popular lines from the movie is "f*ck me gently with a chainsaw."

From my love of the movie Rounders comes the occasional "F#@% you and your never-ending string of full boats..."

i'll say "yar" a lot like a pirate when agreeing with something.

i also say "nevermind the bollocks" during random moments (i think i picked this up from a strongbad email awhile back) and the cheesy "get out of town!" when i am in disbelief about something.

also this isn't a phrase or saying but i get a kick out of being the last person clapping after a great performance or show. i always have to add the extra "clap" after everyone else has stopped. i find this strangely fun though i also acknowledge it as annoying and childish.

nevermind the bollocks!
