   Discussion: The Olympics

I am watching far more of this Olympics than I have of the last few. The reason is the way it is being presented on TV. They are actually showing events not spending all the time on travelogues and puff pieces on the athletes.

So far I've watched:
  • Volleyball
  • Beach volleyball
  • Rowing
  • Swimming
  • boxing
  • gymnastics

I have a crush on one of the beach volleyball girls. I already forgot her name though. :)

I've been watching mostly swimming and gymnastics thus far.

I need to ask. Aren't the voice overs annoying you while watching?

I don't remember the commentators talking that much during the past olympics (even the gymnastics during the '84 olympics). I remember them telling when they made a mistake and how many points would be taken off for it.

Both "here and there" and "as much as I can." I really want to watch more of it, because I appreciate the spectacle and all, but I haven't had time. Also wish I had cable so I could watch more than NBC.

Favorite moment: Yesterday during a USA men's volleyball match.

Announcer #1: "Well, it looks like they're letting him serve again, even though he just served."

Announcer #2: "WHAT?!?"

Andrea Krause Back · 20 years, 6 months ago
Nope, her partner. The 6'2" one. :)

I was in Buffalo over the weekend, so I was spoiled with having both NBC and CBC coverage. I think the CBC station I get in Rome will also have the olympics on it.

I could probably, in theory, care less. I'm just not quite sure how.
Phoenix Back · 20 years, 6 months ago

Hrm. Maybe I should start watching the olympics. I *heart* tall girls ;-D

Andrea Krause Back · 20 years, 6 months ago

It's weird though she looks way cuter on the court than in makeup and hair down off the court. Guess that's my preference for ungirly girls showing. :)

I used to want to be an olympic gymnast. Then a rower. I should probably start watching this stuff. Maybe it'll motivate me to get in better shape and get my flexibility back so I can do the splits again. :D
jen · 20 years, 6 months ago
hah, i used to to be SO flexible when i was a bony little kid. now the only splits i do are of the banana variety :D
Phoenix Back · 20 years, 6 months ago

exceptionally. opening ceremonies for example. here i am actually trying to listen to the speeches. unfortunately, as the speeches were not all in english, i was maybe hoping for a translator. silly me, that was the perfect time to listen to Katie Couric's incessant babbling. all i was thinking was, "hey i speak a little french, would be nice to actually hear the *whole* speech" ...and as i'm a bjork fan, i would have really loved to hear the song. i was unaware that the musical number was a perfect time to discuss her costumer's choices. i mean, it's bjork for christ's sake. did they really expect a pop tartflashy dance number? would they have talked over the musical number if it had been someone like britney *horf*? i doubt it.
