You are right I will. It is Sauron as is said explicitly in Many Meetings, Chapter 1 of book 2 of The Fellowship of the Rings:
Notice it says "Lord of the Ring" meaning hte One Ring. But as that Ring rules the others it makes the "Lord of the Ring" the de facto "Lord of the Rings." This brings back memories of discussions on the Tolkien NG. I'd always cite my references and I was annoyed that other people wouldn't bother to look up the exact quotes and often make factual errors.

yeah.. same here.. Had a Lord Vo---*ahem* He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named moment.. umm.. I think in the LOTR sense, it depends on who you ask... I think in all reality, whomever is in posession of the ring at any given time is the Lord of the Rings... they have the ONE ring.. y'know.. the one that rules them all, finds them, brings them all, and in the darkness binds them.
I dunno - I don't think anyone would call Gollum or Bilbo or Frodo the Lord of the Rings. I think you have to be able to control the rings in order to be their lord. Thus you have to be Sauron, I would think.
What, and we'd rather give that responsibility to Sauron??
Seriously. If the trilogy has taught us anything, it's that Frodo can't be trusted with something as vaulable as the one ring. I mean, pssh, throwing it into a volcano? I could have used that ring for good, like sneaking into movies . . . I could have been so POWERFUL . . . GIVE IT TO ME!!!!!!

Go to this site for some funny reading: http://www.ealasaid.com/misc/vsd/index.html
You must read the diaries in the order that they appear and not skip around, or they will make no sense. This website cracked many of the Lord of the Rings obsessive kids at my school. Not... that... I'm one... of them... I always liked Pippin's myself... The whole thing about him being mistaken for an unusually lifelike lawn ornament..... and the deal with him finding that blowing the horn of Gondor was not quite all it was cracked up to be. .... v. educational all the same.. I also stole my nickname from there and several inside jokes I share with my friend Brandyn... including the Arwen journal's "Aloof, Unavailable Elf Princess.."... and her daddy calling legolas "The gayest elf to ever nance down the pike"... found them v. amusing.^^
i was so going to make myself a t-shirt last summer that said 'pervy hobbit fancier', but i never got around to it. hmm. *eyes t-shirt drawer and acrylics*
I actually *did* do that^^.. I wore it to school at least once a week for about 2 months, before my sister dumped turpentine on it... *wibbles*.. It was a FABULOUS shirt,too.. done in Tolkien font and everything... I still need to make another one of those... *eyes new blank t-shirts gifted from stepdad*...now WHERE did I put that bleach pen??
