2004 Candidate for President

   Discussion: 2004 Candidate for President

A fellow Texan and libertarian has won the 2004 Libertarian nomination for the office of President. Michael Badnarik, a constitutional scholar and professor won the LP nomination this past weekend with 54% of the vote, beating out Gary Nolan (the presumptive favorite) and Hollywood director Aaron Russo (seen as the celebrity candidate). Badnarik had been trailing in most of the polls and state primaries and reports say his convention debate speech is what turned the tide.

I know most here are liberal and will probably vote Green or Kerry, but some pundits are projecting that the Libertarian candidate may act as spoiler for Bush, especially in key swing states, by attracting traditional conservatives and small government Republicans frustrated with Bush's unbridled and unchecked spending.

Anyone interested may want to take a moment to check out Michael Badnarik at http://www.badnarik.org

Let's send the RIGHT Texan to the White House in November! :)

you could always try to get a vote-swapping collective going, where libertarian voters in "purple" states would grit their teeth and pledge to vote for Bush, while conservatives in "safe" republican states would return the favor and vote for Badnarik, helping him increase his raw-vote percentage.

and who knows, enough of them might do it to tip the balance in a couple of those states to favor Kerry. :D
