Poll: Who do you think is going to be the official winner of the 2004 presidential Election? (not who should)

As much as it pains me to say this, I think GWB is going to get re-elected. He's a mastermind of preying off of the fears of people. Plus, the dems didn't exactly pick the stiffest competition. Everyone write in Clark! ;-)

I have to agree, although I think Kerry will give Bush a run for the money.

Well, technically, the Dems could still pick someone else.

They'd get a lot of flak from it, but it'd throw the Republican attacks completly off course ;-)

I like Badnarik best, followed by Nolan. Russo is too much of an outsider for my liking. I question whether he's really libertarian.

This poll would give an interesting dilemma to many Bush supporters, those who are apocalyptic Christians, and believe that the end of the world is coming soon. Which choice would constitute the greater breach of faith?

That being said I picked Kerry, no president has been reelected with approval ratings as low as Bush's are in an election year.

Yeah, I think it's going to be close, and a lot could change between then and now, but I think Kerry will get slightly more votes because more people seem to be strongly anti-Bush than are strongly pro-Bush. The entire race is going to come down to voter turn-out.

That all said, I think Kerry has a real chance to kill his own campaign just like Gore did. He already seems to be drifting more to the center, which isn't going to convert many people, but might lose a number.

I was thinking that Nader wouldn't have much presence this race, but now I have no idea what's going on. The Reform Party support is either going to lose him some support, or it's going to bring in people from the right as well as the left. I mean, Perot--> Ventura--> Buchanan--> Nader?


This is still early in the race though. A lot could happen between now and November. Either way, I bet we won't know who won until a month after the election. If Bush wins, people will cry fowl (either recount or rigged electronic voting), and the same will happen if Kerry wins. The only way that might not cause problems would be a 60-40 win, which was also predicted in the polls the week before.

I'll admit it's hard to judge from my Vermont-liberal-arts-college-bubble, but it seems to me like people are pretty sick of Bush, especially now with the decapitations and prison abuse and general Iraq disaster. There's still time before the election, of course, so if they, for example, know where Bin Laden is and arrest him in October...well...that's another story. But as things stand now I think it looks pretty good for Kerry.

i'd agree. i live in a solidly republican suburban area, but people here are sick of bush and war and lies and soldiers' tours of duty being extended.

as for the decapitation, Nick Berg was a local resident, his family supported the war, and now they are screaming about lies and stonewalling from the FBI and the White House. And so are their Republican congressman and our 2 Republican senators, one of whom just won a primary earlier this month largely thanks to Bush's strong support. I think the Shrub is in major trouble in PA.

See, while around here in Ohio people are still fairly split on the war, Bush is losing a lot of support from the Small-Government types. They aren't going to Kerry either, but neither canidate has any room to lose supporters at this point.

Actually, Berg's father did not support the war, nor Bush. Nick Berg did support Bush and the war though.

true, at least recently. there now seems to be a cottage industry of who-killed-Nick-Berg-and-who-helped? conspiracy theories, aided and abetted by the far-right freerepublic.com lately having targeted Berg's father, and the family telecom business Nick was representing in Iraq, as an enemy. curiouser and curiouser, in a wacky-intrigue way.

oh, man. I can't think of the name Santorum without thinking of the Savage Love definition.

i heard comments from both of them on Thursday or Friday, on KYW radio. Specter came out more strongly, saying it seemed impossible to get any answers to reasonable questions or requests from the Pentagon or the executive branch (slam!), but Santorum chimed in too. and yeah, it shocked me to hear Rick differing from the Bush administration on something, no matter how obliquely.

I can't help but think the White House is already rueing their primary support for Specter. He's never exactly been a conservative darling, and he seems to buck the national Republican party almost as often as he falls in line and sucks up to it.

My apologies for the marginal Nader percent. I was trying to vote for Kerry, but the mouse pad slipped and before I knew it, I had voted Nader. Let this be a lesson: secure your mousepad before voting.

Unfortunately, Bush will win. Kerry has no message, no agenda other than "I'm not Bush" and "Bush is Evil." Regardless what I think of the two major parties, to win an American election, you have to woo the centrist voters. To woo them, you must have a well defined message. Kerry doesn't.

Unless the economic turn around stops or goes belly up, then it's four more years of Bush.
