So, Pauley leaving his job has got me thinkin'. If you wanted terribly to leave (or have left) a job with a great deal of panache, making sure everyone would talk about you for years to come, how would/did you do it?
Andrea Krause Back · 20 years, 10 months ago
I....wouldn't. I personally don't want to burn bridges in case I'm ever desperate enough to go back. Security and keeping a home overrides pride for me. :)

um. at my job from hell, believe me, i had plenty of fantasies of storming outta there screaming, "HAHAHAHAHAH SCREW U BITCHEZ!!!11!!!" or something to that effect. instead, they told me to leave, and i quietly packed up my things and left. um. go me.

Sorry... my job is a cult and I'm fully indoctrinated so I can't think about that.

Plus, most of the jobs I have had (heh...and likely will have) have been within the same company, so even when I'm so miserable I must bolt...it's to another position in the company and I very well may (and often have) end up working with the people again.

I've only had one job not within this company and I was miserable yeah but I just said "I don't want to work here anymore" or whatever. I only had worked there a few months anyway.

similar...

i went in to work early with the intention of tending resignation to a manager...

... they were waiting for me to come in so that they could fire me.

worked out well.

that's what happens when a manager acts like it's still high school, and you happen to hear them talking about you, and then they overhear you bitching about what an immature manager they are.

oh. and then with my next job, i was there for 4 years, and left under very good terms, because they didn't really need me any more and i was moving to germany for a year.

I can't contribute much to this thread cuz -hrm- I've never been fired?

*hides*

Long long ago I was running a small business on my own together with a friend developing DOS software<g> until I got gainfully employed at a big scary company.

And I've been working with them for about 10 years now. Oops.

my quitting mostly involved never coming back and crying for a while because i felt like i had been abused. which was far from entirely untrue. wow, I sure can pick 'em.

I just picked up the phone and said "I'm not coming in today...or ever again." Felt good at the time.

Well, I wasn't very confrontational about leaving my previous job, but it was somewhat interesting how I gave notice. I had a first interview for my present job the day before I started a vacation at my old job. I told my boss that I had to leave early to run some errands. I went on my vacation the next day and came back to get a phone call to come in for a second interview that was scheduled the morning I came back to work. I just called in and said I was coming in late. I then gave notice the following Monday to the shock and disbelief of my supervisor.

What makes it semi-interesting is the timing of my giving notice, which was entirely coincidental. Two weeks prior to my giving notice, my co-worker came back from her own vacation and gave notice to my boss. Being the paranoid person that she was, my boss thought there was some conspiracy going on.

I've never been fired/quit, but most of my fantasies involve fire or actions that would result in arrest, or both.
