What to do in Toronto (after Frcon)?

Discussion: What to do in Toronto (after Frcon)?
Phoenix · 21 years, 1 month ago

Since I'll be staying for about 3 additional days in Toronto after Frcon (going home on Thursdaynight) I'm now investigating into cool stuff to do.

Anyone with ideas, suggestions what to do or see in Toronto while it's freezing cold. ? Artsy, quirky, off-the-beaten track stuff is definitely preferred :)
Any input is really appreciated...

Ooh, Kensington Market! It's certainly funky. Leanne and I are going to head over there on Friday morning (but not too early.....right, Leanne?) My biggest concern right now is that I have no real winter clothes. Stupid Eastern winters....*grumble, grumble* .

Queen Street. queen street queen street queen street. and definitely queen street.

home of the giant smiling condom sign. and countlessfunky stores. and Lush.

but i agree, Kensington is a little funkier... but queen street appeals to the punk rocker neurokid in me.

There is no after frucon. Frucon lasts until you leave Toronto. Right Gella? ;)

Frucon actually lasts until you get home. *remembers a luxurious unplanned night in Burlington and a long train ride with Fruwench and the Engles*

Because I *DON'T* like the cold, I really like downtown Toronto's PATH. This is a large, mostly underground, shopping mall connecting most downtown buildings. It has lots of clothing stores and food courts.

Get a free copy of NOW magazine from boxes on the street, it has good reviews and listings of local music, theatre, and more. I've been to a couple of theatre shows they recommend which were very good. Some are "PWC" (pay what you can). I've also heard good things about the Royal Ontario Museum but haven't been there yet.

a blizzard. a fucking huge thing that knocks out all power. I want to be stranded far away from work and life.

I'm not so sure about the blizzard but at this very moment I'd gladly join the "far away from home and work" club...

I'm sure. I LOVE snow. give me enough to cover the first story windows and I'm a happy girl. skiing?! snow shoeing?! making snow forts?! we made one as big as our garage once.

Yet another reason I need to move out east. It's considered a lot if we get half a foot.

But after getting nearly 9 feet of snow, total, you REAAAALLLLYYY start to get sick of it. Really badly. And it turns all BROWN and it's GROSS and it's still COLD and WET and NOT FUN...

...I complain because it's true.
Talcott Back · 21 years ago
but it wouldn't turn brown if it just kept falling and there was never any hint of spring :-D

There are probably reasons why I've never been alowed to be a diety ;-)

If you continue south from Hugh's Room, go down Roncesvalles Ave. and there are lots of fun places to go. I highly reccomend a groovy place called Daddy-O's Milkbar that has the best milkshakes in the city (no better way to beat the cold than ice cream). items on the menu include the Jack Kerouac (sp?) banana shake, the naughty polly shake (with peaches and oreo crumbs), little green men from mars shake (mint chocolate ice cream with chilled espresso), and the hipsville spiced shake (chai, espresso, vanilla ice cream). they have some comfy comfy chairs in the back.
