I was talking to a friend about dropping hints about what you want for Christmas/Chanukkah, Festivus, etc. That leads to second grade theme number 2.
What do you want for (Fill in the winter holiday of your choice)?
I want a red rider bb rifle with a compass in the stock.

how about a new car door? Now would be a good time for that! But seriously folks, silverware. Nice silverware. I have been asking my parents to purchase this for me for a while. Just this past week, while my mom was asking what I wanted for Christmas, I made the hint....again. She said that she could not pick silverware out for me, because when I was young she would pick clothes out for me and I mostly hated them. But we are talking silverware here, and when I was younger, if I had realized the quality of the clothing and was spared from paying for it, I might have liked it more! And my mom is pretty keen to my taste in silverware patterns! Nice one gordon!!
Good silverware is important to me too. It doesn't have to be overly expensive silverware, just some heavy enough for when I've had a crappy day, I can come home and eat ice cream from the box without my spoon bending. That is very important!! I found some too, at *gasp* wal-mart. Who knew the blue vested nazi's actually carry some really good stuff?

I could use a new camera and a walkman. I left my camera somewhere in Annapolis a few years ago and never replaced it. Part of the problem is that i don't want a cheap one. I want one with a decent zoom.
I could also use a new walkman. I miss listening to the radio on the train in the morning. Part of me wants one with a CD player but it is the only place I play my tapes so maybe that would be better. What I really need is something you can't buy in a store.

Usually when people ask me what I want I go, "Enh, you don't have to get me anything." It drives my parents crazy because they really have nothing to do all year except think about what to get me for *insert gift-giving holiday here*.
But this year I actually have specific things I want! Yay me! I want decent headphones (like, almost those heavy-duty DJ headphones with the padding and stuff), 2 Dan Bern CDs (one to replace the one Dave Tobey stole, and the other being World Cup, cuz I want the book that comes with it), a hippie-like toque (or woollen ski hat for those of you of the American persuasion), the Red Vs. Blue DVD (!!!!!), a Red Vs. Blue "Tex - Freelancer" grey shirt, and the obligatory socks and underwear which I always love getting ;) And, if we add fantasy to this list, I waaaaaaant that flower-shaped pink electric guitar in the window of the music store on Bloor. I entered a contest to win one 2 or 3 years ago and didn't win. Kyla tells me they might be having a contest for it at the music store. It is my destiny. *swoon*

I really really want a Dell Digital Jukebox: http://www1.ca.dell.com/content/products/category.aspx/dj?c=ca&cs=CADHS1&l=en&s=dhs. It's like an iPod, but better because it's easier to use and isn't a Mac. *drool* A digital camera would also be nice. And a USB MIDI cable.
you know you can use an iPod with a PC now.... and the Dell 20GB Digital Jukebox is very expensive at $449. for just $50 more you can get an iPod with twice the capacity that's physically quite a bit smaller than the Dell. plus, with the iPod, you get the iTunes music store, which is excellent.
It would be excellent...except you have to live in the U.S. to buy anything from the iTunes store. It's funny, everytime I open it up to check if I can use it yet I get a "country warning". Oooooooh...warning...beware of Canada!! ;) And I like Dell. Those things will be much less expensive next year, they're just pricey now because they came out recently. I don't plan to buy one for at least half a year anyway. And apparently the Dell ones are easier to use, but I can't say I've tried to use either of the players, so I'm just going by what I read in the Star about that point. *makes budget*
I think you'd be hard pressed to find anything easier to use than an iPod - it has exactly two moving parts - the "hold" switch and the hard drive. the buttons are all touch sensitive and the controls are very simple to learn. (there are only 7 things on the device that do anything)
really, don't rule it out. they're very nice and you may even be able to find a way around that silly country restriction in iTunes.
I was going to buy the 1st Dan Bern for you when you were talking about being upset at not having it any more. But I couldn't find it cheap enough. Now that Christmas is coming, cheap enough is less of a concern. Besides, I got a pretty good deal on Ebay. Look for it in a few days. Merry Christmas!

Mystic Trader has a labradorite pendant that I wasn't even subtle about dropping the hint on -- I just showed the catalog to Steve and said "WANT!"
And books. I'd love to have Joseph Campbell's works on mythology. So if you put it in your bag do the buttons get pressed all over the place? I don't know, I kind of like the familiar play/pause/stop/back/forward button design, but maybe that's just me. Maybe I *do* live in the past. *glances at shiny black 500 rotary phone on desk*
nope - there's a locking switch to prevent things like that. just slide it into the lock position. the wired remote will still work, though, and that's also another wonderful feature of the iPod - you can put the device in your bag or your pocket or something and hang the remote out and clip it to something convenient (a pocket, the outside of the bag, etc) and use it to control the music (which is play/pause, back, forward, volume up/down)
it's hard to tell from a catalog photo, and obviously each will differ, but they look blue and brown in the photo i saw: http://www.pacificspiritcatalogs.com/search.php?code=labradorite+tongue&x=0&y=0. *swoon*
that's why i want the books sitting on my shelves for handy use -- not at various libraries in the area.
