I'm reading a book right now called the Song Reader about a woman who acks as a psychic/advisor for people by keeping their song charts...keeping track of earworms and deciphering their meanings. I haven't gotten very far into it�yet but it's interesting...�����

This is insane, but I get the Dreidel song (dreidel dreidel dreidel, I made you out of clay...) stuck in my head a lot, AND The I Dream of Jeannie theme song.� Both weird because I'm not Jewish and I *never* liked that tv show.� HEH.

Hee. Dreidel was an ear-worm of mine (way back though) but only the Don McLean version.

This thread itself has actually earwormed me with the theme from Attack of the Killer Tomatoes.

there is a great short story by Arthur C. Clarke about someone programming a computer to find the ultimate melody. It finds the essential ingrediant in all earworms and finds the platonic ideal of a melody. When it plays it anyone who hears it pretty much goes catatonic, the melody is all consuming. The only way they could stop it was by sending someone tone deaf in the room to turn it off. The story is in Tales of the White Hart.

I like the idea of the tone deaf person being able to save the day.
