   Discussion: Question of the Day
K-Lyn · 21 years, 5 months ago

Its the College Board's SAT prep question of the day!!!!!!!!!!!!

(Choose the word or set of words that, when inserted in the sentence, best fits the meaning of the sentence as a whole. )

I seem to remember the questions being much harder? What is this? Is it just because it's a pratice question online? I know it's been over 10 years since I took the darn things so I could just be out of touch.

My SAT scores were... weird at best. I got a 730 on the verbal... and a 470 on the math. Dyscalculia (my math-related learning disability)sucks, but I managed to pull a 1200. Just out of curiosity, what did you guys get?

No clue, I'm Canadian. Is there anywhere you can take SATs for fun? That'd be my kind of place :D

I used to teach an SAT prep course and I still tutor people for it. There were always easy questions, What number question is it? More importantly where in the sequence of fill ins with it. They get progressively more difficult.

There was once a fill in "almost ______ apathy" and I put in hysterical. I knew it was not the right answer but it was a very nice use of language.

I don't remember what I got any more.

But I was part of a Johns Hopkins study and I actually took them in8th grade (and did better that46% of all college bound seniors in English -I remember that). It was interesting. No stress since it didn't matter.

Then I took them my junior year as you are supposed to any they gave me theexact same result...seems the computer was confused becauseI had taken thetest before and there was no way tofind my 'realy' score soI had to take it AGAIN! What a pain...

*sigh*

Well, I don't remember the breakdown, but when I took it for real I got 1390. I wasn't proud. In 8th grade though I got 1180. I was proud of that.

Before anyone gets on my back for being snobby or elitist or inconsiderate... please understand that my family is extremely... er... well, lets just say I come from a long line of overacheivers. My sister got 1520 her junior year of high school and my father told her it was merely adequate.

Wait... so why were you proud of 1180 and not of 1390?
ChrisChin is Getting Old Back · 21 years, 5 months ago

See, I was the exact opposite. Idid fairly well onmath but did so-so on verbal. I think I got some where along the lines of690 for math and 540 for verbal. I just never really had a knack for learning new and unusual words. Still, I was veryhappy with the score after I figured out that I had to carry the one and realized that it was a 1230 instead of a 1130. :)

cause 1180 in 8th grade is better than 1390 in 12th. In 7th grade I got 930 and the next year it jumped to 1180. When in 12th it was a mere 1390, I felt like I was getting dumber.

Also, I knew 3 people who got 1600 that year.

Gotcha.

Since I've never taken this test (being a canunk) I'm just curious, what is the test out of? What's the best score you can possibly get and what is an "average" mark?
