DVN...can I bring an 8 year old?

I want a friend to go with me to see them (We've never seen or heard them but are going purely on your recommendations!) but she'd have to bring her daughter? Is this ok?�The friend loves Moxy but wouldn't bring her daughter�to see them since they often swear...

depends on the venue and time. if DVN say it's a family show, it will be 8-year-old safe. if it's not a family show, I'd say that it is definitely not appropriate for an 8-year-old.

you should be able to email them and ask - they might even decide to make it a family show, knowing children will be there.

I'd agree with this. They've got lots of overt potty humor that might even be appropriate for 10 or 11 (depending on maturity) but I'm sure the last thing an 8 year old wants to hear is a song called "Enormous Penis". (Even if they wouldn't get it.)

Hmmm...DVN have a lot of "blue" material that comes out in their full-length shows (not at festivals or at shows specifically designated as "family shows"). they're definitely a lot of fun, and i've seen plenty of kids at their shows (including their own) having a great time. but having an eight-year-old girl listen to songs about penises and porn might not be what your friend wants. :)

Check out their website, listen to some audio clips, and have your friend check those out, too, so she can decide whether she feels comfortable bringing her daughter.

I would recommend NOT bringing an 8-year-old to see DVN.

That said, however, if it's inconvenient not to, I'd follow the suggestion others have given, and email the band to ask if it'll be a kid-friendly show.

totally depends on your friend. If her head will explode at the thought of her daughter hearing the word "penis," then no. On the other hand, it might provide an opportunity for dialog about some adult themes mentioned in a tongue-in-cheek manner. These day, 8 isn't too early to start talking more frankly about sex, unless you'd rather they learn about it from TV and their friends.

my friend went to a DVN concert... there was a family [mom,dad and like.. 8-10 year old daughter] there.. and she said on the train ride home, she overheard the daughter asking her father if he had an Enormous Penis... i'd say its not safe for children.. unless of course your mom is like mine... hehehe -sam

I went to a show where a little boy asked for EP in request-o-rama.

Personally I don't think it really hurts a kid to hear it. Bernie on the other hand made a family friendly mix of Brontosaurus to play for his kids.

As was said, the best thing to do is write and ask if will be family friendly.

And my friend didn't. We found EP on the website and decided against. And I'm glad. It's not really as much about her relationship with her child as much as what happens when said child goes to school the next day and tells her friends what she did last night...

There was a girl the same age there and her family (13 year old sister). They saw her in the audience...announced being "openly family UN-Friendly" and asked if she wanted to her a childrens' song...and sang Internet Porn.

But I was dying...rolling in the isles...for the entire time!! Cheeks hurt! Needed water! I will never miss them if they ever come back here on tour.

But what do people think about their CDs. I've heard that they don't compare to seeing them live. Are they worth investing in?

The live show is, of course, the Ultimate DVN experience... but I'd say the albums are definitely worth investing in. They're still a lot of fun, great for long car trips with silly people who will scream along with Ally McBeal and Another Irish Drinking Song... also it's great to learn the lyrics, which is *very* important. :) Plus there's Uncle Buford's Mega Mix!

i agree with gella. plus, you get to hear stuff like their cover of "shoehorn with teeth" with fruvous, and of course, all of "uncle buford's megamix."

My friend did bring his eight year old to see DVN and he had a great time. It ended up being a family show but we weren't sure about it at the time. I warned him about EP so it wouldn't be a shock if they did it.

EP may not shock�someone with kids.....but the "Fuck you" song might *g*�

Not to mention, if kids start singing that song in the hallways of school, DVN is going to be in a heap of trouble.... :)
