Misheard Fruvous lyrics (or others)
There's a freakin hilarious site called Candy Apple Pee, which is a collection of Beach Boys mis-heard lyrics. . .i think the same would be funny for fruvous. . . .i already have some from my friends: "Did he just say a fellatio palace, that was my home?" "there'll always be a lineup for that strange and warm nipple food" the background vocals in the beginning of spiderman: "babboon feed?" i know there's more, but that's all i can think of now.
Wasn't there a thread on this subject before?
Bittersweet: "Toothpaste leaves a strange taste"
Wait, Paul Mishler has a Fruvous song? What are the lyrics? I wanna hear it!
Ok maybe I am the only person who thought this.
My friend Matt thought there was a line in The Drinking Song about... um... "pleasuring one's self..."
"'til he's finally beaten his..."
*think's it somewhat obvious what he though he heard...*

*dies*
Yeah, that's what I always used to jokingly sing.
heh
um, that's actually what I've always thought it was...hope people haven't been listening too closely to me during sing alongs.
My son thought the line in Down From Above was : "Have they got gum?"

Speaking of the old days:
Here (Thanks to the magic of Google) is an original AMMF thread on the subject of misheard fruvous lyrics (or Frudegreens as we were calling them) from September 1998. Enjoy!

Heh.. yeah, I remember that thread. :)
Wow, blast from the past! That was three email addresses ago for me at work. :)

It's... BARCO!!! The wonder-dog!!!!
I always thought Jian was saying:
When she talks, I listen
...What? That's actually what he says? No, Fruvous would never say anything that lame..
hehehe! yes. :hearts josh too: see, the thing with a lot of songs on thornhill, especially "when she talks," is that they could be really improved if they were sung in a Cartman voice. just picture it. more misheard lyrics: From Your New Boyfriend "you said that you would never end up with a recinder/Well that's what you said when we were both in bed" "when we first kissed, the roadies were pissed" From KING OF SPAIN: "Why would he want to get married in silks in the royal boudouir?"
well i always thought fly was about a suicde pact if no-one else has said anything
dude! i always thought that too!! cause they untied the ropes and they took their last flight. i'm glad i'm not alone on that one.
word. i mean, as far as i can gather, the video is all about dying. :D but then of course jianhad to goand explain it all. gah. :)
did he really explain it? didn't he just say "it's about when someone you realy love and you really care for, when you realize you're just not right for each other." that leaves a lot open to interpretatation. i mean, he could have said, " . . . .so you kill yourselves together." of course, then it would have made the song a lot more difficult to relate to for most of hte people in the audience. i've never seen the video. what's it like?
Add me to the list as well!
Yep, I thought so as well.

Me too. I always hated it because I found it very disturbing. When he explained it I liked it so much more. I mean yes it IS kind of like a suicide pact, but it is meant to be a METAPHORICAL one. The narrative in the song is something quite different which isnt really stanted. I think maybe too many people started thinging it WAS about a suicide pact, and that is why he started to explain it, because when wood first came out he used to do the song withought explanation.

Noooooo...but it's so beautiful! It can't be about death! *sobs*
Annika

Hey, I wasn'tthe first one to mention it, I never even thought of it until reading this thread. Listening to the lyrics though, I really don't know. You could interpret parts of it as being about a suicide pact but I don't think it gives that impression overall, personally. *determined to find a less depressing meaning in the song*

The video does.. hrm.. I hope that's not what the songs about.
you've never heard a beautiful death song?
I've heard a lot.
Henry Lee, for one.

No, unless you would count Faur's Requiem, and Mozart's, and...but I'm sure there are many out there that I haven't heard yet.

"Speaking of killing..." *sings song about pioneers slaughtering Native American*
- Oh Susannah @ Fruvous and Friends for Choice.
Um, brains, anyone?
There has to be more misheard lyrics in that song than any others. Dave is just mumbling everything.
10 points to whoever can come up with the rudest alternativebacking vocal-y bit lyrics. o/' totally rockin', totally loose... o/' i dare ye. *grin*
for "totally rockin, totally loose?" I rode a rockin female moose.
dude, has anyone ever seen the british music show 'never mind the buzzcocks' on bbc world or something? they have this super-hilarious round where they have to decipher lyrics that are partly or completely undistinguishable :D most of the time they just fool around a lot and come up with a stupid version with rudewords and stuff, but occasionally one of the team members actually knows the real lyrics and gets the points. it's, um, cool. i know siobhan will be with me on this one. :)
yes it is funny. Everyone try and buy buzzcocks on amazon!
I think this one has the most misheard lyrics for me. "Well it was me, you and Jackoff" "We gave the finger to Sony and FrMacaroni" This confused me. I was like, "Frvous has their own macaroni now?" i've realized most of my mishearings are borderline vulgar. maybe i need psychotherapy.

I had to go read the lyrics to see what it actually was. I thought they "grew macaroni" which didn't make sense, but I assumed they just couldn't think of a good rhyme for sony.
great...another one that I've always got wrong. I assumed they meant they were growing pot.
i always felt that it sounded like a reference to the tradition of throwing macaroni at Barenkaed Ladies shows (although I didn't think they'd reference another band like that)
In the same song, I thought it said "It was me, you, and Jacko in your new Ford Taco" and that it was some model of Ford that we didn't have in this country. :)
The line *IS* "threw macaroni", right?
But, what I don't get is why said macaroni was pissed when they first kissed.

"We gave the finger to Sony
and threw macaroni
when we first kissed
and Mulroney was pissed"
They were throwing macaroni at (then) Tory prime minister Brian Mulroney. (Presumbably because they were card carrying left wingers, now the girl has compromised her values)
I read an explanation (don't know where) that it was tied to liking "alternative" music. We told Sony we don't like their crap and threw macaroni at the Barenaked Ladies instead (at a concert). That's how I always thought it went.
This song WINS. For real. My interpretation of the one line
"Sharp and it's in the air-y, like a tinted box of lead, I said."
And I'm sure there are MANY others.

heh.. my dad thoughthewas saying "It's pool time" Which is how he sang it for a couple months until I was in the car with him and said "Did you just say Pool time?"
Heh, that just got me to thinking: "It's Tool Time....." And of course, there is the filk out there called "Moo Time".
It isn't that I heard the lryics wrong but somehow when I sang it the drinking song came out.
And the band played on
as the digit counters whirred
Carey then added.
singing this song
getting all the words wrong
For the coup to grace I finished with;
I'm Popeye the sailor man. Toot! Toot!
a pleasure cruise on an ocean of haunted shoes
When I first heard Dave Matthews Band "Crash" I thought he was saying "hike up your skirt, little boy." Disturbing. When I saw him live, it sounded like he said "hike up your skirt, little girl" which is better (kind of). I was telling someone, a fan of Dave Matthews, about this supposed lyrics swap. They got very pissy and told me it was "little more," not "little boy," or "little girl." I stuck by my guns and insisted he said "little girl" at the concert, even though I knew I was probably wrong.
What exactly is the Drinking song about (aside from drinking)? I always thought it was about a guy and his friend drinking all night and his friend dying of alcohol poisoning afterwards. I have a friend who thinks it is some sort of apocolyptic event (nuclear dawn, think of bombs). So what is it? I need closure.
Here is one interpretation.

It's too long, I'm too lazy, can someone summarize?
Looks like we're all too lazy to summarize, guess you're going to have to read it. ;)

I've said it before and I'll say it again....
You. Are straaaaaaaaaaaaange.
Ok, Your New Boyfriend, "Your new Boyfriend's a bit, of a right wing..., is it a right wing shit? Or a right wing chick, giving the impression to me that Fruvous is indeed a supporter of the gay/lesbian/bi populace.

We used to call "Your New Boyfriend" "Right Wing Shit" or "RWS" before the album came out and informed us that they'd chickened out on the name.
ah, I see I see, your wisdom is a shining beacon for...me
On "Both Belong," it sounds like he says "And baby (or maybe) you're a dolphin...)" But that can't be right.
Anybody know what it really is?
