I'm not a victim I'm a volunteer

What kinds of things volunteer work have you done?

I've spent the last week volunteering at the WFUV pledge drive. It is more fun than a barrel of monkeyturtles.

I've also worked on lots of political campaigns.

I have volunteered on MORE than one occasion to finish the drink of a friend who was already too drunk.

It's rough... but I always try to help out when I can.

*noble look*

I was supposed to go to a river clean-up today, but my friend never called me. I really wanted to do that.

I volunteer at a museum research lab sometimes. I like to sort through various reptiles in jars and classify them. It's fun.

I've been working with elementary school kids since I was in highschool... I help them out with their yearly talent show... how many yoyo acts can you cram into two hours? wonders never seace... (I obviously don't help with their spelling). will someone hang themselves with their own yoyo ON stage? stay tuned!

and most recently I'm trying to do a stint with americorps. living modestly (in a tent) for the summer/fall in acadia national park... clearing trails and learning about environmental conservation and education! woo! I rock.

well.

unfortunately, i am a volunteer-o-holic. i have worked at several benefit carnivals/festivals{of the fund-raising -not- folk variety}, have stage managed a traveling kids' not-for-profit group, and have assisted a few youth fellowship groups on camp outs and retreats, among other things.

i guess the ones that stick out in my mind the most and are the most recent hafta be FRFF, merching for DVN & the kennedys, being the proud captain of 'team schaefer'{well...the man -himself- can't be the captain...even robbie isn't -that- narcissistic :P}for 2 years running, and, of course, my celebrated EFO merch mavendom ;)

another thing that's EFO-related-but-not-merch-maven-turf is that my cabinmates and i are creating/coordinating/etc a gameshow for the EFO cruise this year. should be lotsa fun! i am also planning on taking a more active role in the cruisestuffs this year to make it a blast for everyone.

whoooooohooooo!!!

I've volunteered for this animal club.. elks? moose? eagles? somethin, taking food to old people. I only did that for a couple days because the old people kept yelling at me for not having scalloped potatos.  Then I volunteered at the CELL center, helping people learn to use the computers, and at the Y doing the same thing.

I love Acadia. That was one of the best family vacations I ever went on.

i've done all the usual community service stuff; i used to chair my college's community service organization. i've also done lots of stuff for the parishes i've belonged to. and i love volunteering for wfuv when i can. the biggest thing i do right now, tho, is volunteering for concerts at the old town school of folk music.
