Fruvous Return Setlist

   Discussion: Fruvous Return Setlist
Gordondon son of Ethelred · 21 years, 11 months ago
Here's the deal. Fruvous ends the hiatus and you win the Make the setlist contest You mission should you choose to accept it is to make up a 20 song setlist for Fruvous' return from hiatus show. You can choose any song they've recorded or performed plus one cover song they've never done if you like. Extra points for being considerate to Dave and putting the accordion songs and banjo songs together.
lawrence Back · 21 years, 11 months ago
wow. that's challenging. but here's my attempt at it:
  • down from above
  • horseshoes
  • laika
  • stuck in the 90s
  • independence day
  • fly
  • bed and breakfast
  • on her doorstep
  • earthquakes
  • organ grinder
  • johnny saucep'n
  • ballad of marion fruvous
  • nuits de reve
  • love set fire (murray & dave)
  • homeward bound (mike & jian)
  • river valley
  • fell in love

  • i will hold on
  • if only you knew

  • gulf war song
nate... Back · 21 years, 11 months ago
No Follow the Road?
lawrence Back · 21 years, 11 months ago
no room! besides, my "runners up" are My Poor Generation, The Drinking Song, Splatter Splatter, Get in the Car, Sahara, Lee, Kick in the Ass, Your New Boyfriend, and BJ Don't Cry. so Follow the Road would come somewhere in the second or third set. :)
Back · 21 years, 11 months ago

I'll have to ponder this some more....

I like what Lawrence picked, but it seems like it would be QUITE a mellow concert.  I'd almost throw a "runner up" or two in there just to wake up the list!

:D

what's up with the cheesy depressing bit at the end? fell in love, I will hold on & THEN if only you knew. great. let's make 'em all teary eyed for the real kicker - gulf war song. this has kleenex written all over it!

Set 1: Sahara (120 minute extended jam)

Encore: Sahara Reprise
Mamalissa! Back · 21 years, 11 months ago
Oh, and I suppose you want them to come in on a flying hotdog too!
Josh Woodward Back · 21 years, 11 months ago
they don't need to do that, as long as they get tom hanks to sing the bridge section.
Mamalissa! Back · 21 years, 11 months ago
or Murray's brother.
Eri Back · 21 years, 11 months ago
Mmmm. Good idea.
Sarah Back · 21 years, 11 months ago
Nice. I really like the one they did with a combination of Sahara and No No Raja.

OK, I don't think I could narrow my choices down to 20, but I DO know they would include "Splatter Splatter," "Complainte D'Un Phoque" and "You're Gonna Lose That Girl" so I had to just say woot to this list.

I love how you say "No no Raja" is one of your favorite songs, yes.. it doesn't make it to your list. Do you think they aren't going to play what people want to hear if they get back together??
Gordondon son of Ethelred Back · 21 years, 11 months ago
I said Darlington Darling is one of my favorites, not No No Raja.

DD is on my list.

No No almost made the cut. It might if I did it again.
Annika Back · 21 years, 11 months ago
Oops! Read it wrong. Sorry.
Shelly Back · 21 years, 11 months ago

but darlington darling isn't -on- thornhill..gordon's favorite album...

Gordondon son of Ethelred Back · 21 years, 11 months ago
...and Britney Spears is my favorite singer
nate... Back · 21 years, 11 months ago
ahhh.. a man who things of fruvous as a "goofy" band. ;)
Gordondon son of Ethelred Back · 21 years, 11 months ago
No one who thinks of them as not insipid.

I'd might have included Splatter Splatter but why ruin a perfect record.
nate... Back · 21 years, 11 months ago
Who DOES think of them as insipid?
Back · 21 years, 11 months ago

yeah, good songs Gordon, but a fluffy concert that list would make.

~J~

Rachel Marie aka RAI · 21 years, 11 months ago
Okay, because there are two many songs to choose from I make only one requirement:

It HAS TO HAS TO HAS TO have "Lazlo's Career" in it. That's one of my top five and I have yet to hear it live. I know, I'm weird. :o)

Swing it,
Rachel Marie :o)

John J. Ryan Back · 21 years, 11 months ago

You missed it, we played that during one of the Frucon 6 jams. :)

I actually have it recorded, but it wasn't good enough to make the Frucon 6 Sessions CDs.  Although if it had been performed better ( Mainly by me), it would have been awesome.  It certainly had potential.

dave "buh" · 21 years, 11 months ago
Well I've never heard them do "GOtta Get a Message to You", "Bed and Breakfast", "On Her Doorstep" , or "Fell In Love" live so any of those would be definitely on my list. And "Down From Above" "Bittersweet" "Misplaced" "Homeward Bound" "Follow the Road" "Poor Napoleon" "Love Set Fire" "Horseshoes" and ending with "Early Morning Rain"

And as for other, new covers, I'd always thought there was a lot of crossover potential between MF and Squeeze, but since MF did a bit of "Tempted" at Frucon, that's done.
danced with Lazlo Back · 21 years, 11 months ago

alright my dream setlist really didnt turn out like my dream setlist. because my real dream setlist would have upwards of 40 songs, including a cover of TMBG's Istanbul not Constantinople, beware the killer tents, blow wind blow, minnie the moocher, faster medicine show, pisco bandito, bittersweet, morphee, and many more!

and maybe they could write a fruhead song just for me and play it at the show.
and maybe i could make a guest appearance playing guitar and singing in the Rock It Out set. haha i wish.
