This forum is for people new to FHDC and Fruhead-dom to introduce themselves. Let's make 'em all feel welcome!
What is fruhead????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
just curious...if you don't know what a fruhead or moxy fruvous are, why would you sign up and join this site?
Well, interestingly enough.... this site is more of a community these days than it is anything related to the aforementioned things.
I mean, look at stefan. He's become part of it (though he's disappeared recently) even though he doesn't know what fruvous is....
"even though he doesn't know what fruvous is.... "
oh, well that's easy. It's a high-stakes Mesopotamian board game. Come to think of it, that's more or less what our Bush Administration is playing these days.

I am an unfortunate soul that got into Fruvous after they stopped touring... however, I have listened to as many live recordings as I can get my hands on (at an appropriate concert volume as dictated to me by my Fruconcert going friends) in a desperate attempt to get an idea of how great they sound in person. It kinda worked... anyway, I'm looking for more recordings now and expanding my Fruvous knowledge!
-i'd also like to dedicate the Gulf War Song to my brother who is overseas right now fighing in Afghanistan- Matt, come back soon. -Erika

Hi all - been into Fruvous forever (my fru-story is posted on my web site), and have been on this site for a little while.
I am taking a class - Sociology of the Internet, and we are all about discussing online communities. I did a paper on Fruvous, this web site and my experiences on it. I don't post a lot, but I have gained/learned a lot from being a member. It is funny because in class we debate how you know people online, but you don't know them in real life, but I think that it is awesome that you finally get to "meet" all of the people that you have heard Fru-related stories about here! Let Fruvous never die! Do you still have the paper you wrote about FHDC? I'd love to read it! (if it's ok with you.) I'm sure others would like to see it as well. YAY ~J~
I will send it via email since it is quite long. Basically, it uses FHDC as an example of a positive safespace in virtual reality.
Hi, to "Chelly Bean"! Ya, I'm just a-wonderin' how you got that really cool picture beside your name. if you could reply, that'd be GREAT. k, thanks OH ya, FRUVOUS RULES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :P

I joined a while back and lurked. Now I'm starting to be chatty. A friend of mine introduced me to Fruvous a couple years ago. Now I'm trying to get anyone I can into Fruvous. I've successfully converted my mother to a fruhead, still working on my brothers and father. Almost there with my uncle and have successfully converted several friends. One friend and I have been known to go through mall parking lots singing Fruvous songs as loud as possible and remain in tune. I'm a college student graduating in May and in addition to Fruvous I also love movies, cooking, rollerblading and lots of other stuff (many interests listed on my profile). I also have an adorable dog who is my litttle angel.

Hello I am a fan Jians but I got in Moxy Fruvous after and I like them just as much, so I thought I'd come and visit this board too. (I go to the ji spot one too) Nice meeting everyone Diana Hey there! Albums to get: Bargainville: Studio versions of a lot of the stuff from Live Noise, plus other great songs like Fell In Love and Laika. Also, some more great a cappella (Lazy Boy, Gulf War Song) Wood: Live Noise is only the tip of the iceberg to what I consider the best Fruvous album. Great album to listen to from start to finish. B: Lots of little trickets here, but none of the songs are misses. Thornhill: Probably the most underrated album, it's like Wood's sister-album. Some real gems on this album. You Will Go To Moon and C should be the last two albums you should get.
"You Will Go To Moon and C should be the last two albums you should get"
Ok, I'll agree with you on "C" (as much as I defend it around here), but YYGTTM? That was my first album actually. While "Wood" is by far their best, I've always thought of YYGTTM as being the best starting point (other than Live Noise). It show's the range of the band more than any of the other albums. I agree totally. I got into them at the time YWGTTM came out, which might have something to do with it, but I always thought it demonstrated the incredible variety of the band (and their shows) even more than Live Noise. You've got the banjo hip hop (as the articles call it), their love and appropriation of covers, some a capella, some political stuff, some social commentary, some profanity, and some stuff that completely defies categorization. Mmmmm..., Moon. i hate to say it ( a lot of people will agree, though), but Fruvous as most people know it is over. Everyone in & involved with the band has moved on to other things. Jian with his TV show & solo quasi-career. Mike's touring Ontario teaching kids about Canadian history. Murray's touring w/ GBS since Darrell quit (i would love to see Murray on stage again *sigh* with GBS *double sigh*). Dave, well i don't really know what Dave's been doing since he released his album, but i would love to see him acting again... mostly just so i could point at the TV & yell, "Dave-O!" anywho... i hope that we'll see even an EP in the future. i'm even willing to travel to see a one-off show. it might even bring me to a Con if there was a show again. meanwhile, i'm just listening to the lads infrequently & expanding my musical horizons. Just wanted to throw this little nugget out there. From a fairly recent Jian interview (Jan 2003): "It's more that this new phase of my career has prevented me from following my music right now. Moxy Frvous is on hiatus, but still officially together" This is interesting as well. From a 2002 interview: "Like currently weve been writing this thing, on a totally separate project, musical theatre, like a musical. And Mike and I came up with the original idea......."
"It's more that this new phase of my career has prevented me from following my music right now. Moxy Frvous is on hiatus, but still officially together" Translated "I'm too busy to play with that silly band anymore, I'm on to bigger and better things. Err... uh.. I mean Moxy Frvous is on hiatus, but still officially together." I love Jian! :^P No seriously, the above was just me being a jerk. Well, it *could* be interpreted that way, of course. I prefer to continue deluding myself. ;-)
Yes, Awwwwwwww, very awwwww even. So Awww you wouldn't even know where to begin your aww's. Don't even try to act like you think you might begin to imagine where the awww begins.... *hugs* I love you too Nate! I Love Everyone on this forum, I'm a big happy love filled... vodka filled, coffee drinking, boca burger eating, girl.
Can anyone tell me more about this alleged musical? Have they made any progress on it since 2002? has anyone heard anything about it since 2002? and just for kicks, about when in 2002 did this particular interview come out?
thanks, any info is appreciated!!
Currently Dave is substituting in a band called Betty and the Bobs in Toronto and playing with local artists upon occasion. Not that you'd know he's doing anything from the lack of info on his website. ;)
Did anyone mention (or even notice) Dave's appearance on a recent Royal Canadian Air Farce show backing up one of the regulars in a song? I forgot to mention it at the time.... my bad. Oh yeah, cool idea to start this forum, great to see there are still new people coming in.
I suspect that the general consensus is correct, Frvous as it was, will not reappear. Unless maybe the winds blow musical taste in such a way that what they do so well is more mainstream. Projects from two, three or four of them are rather more likely. imho. ymmv.
Sorry Talcott, I wasn't clear. When I said "Frvous as it was" what I meant was with the same heavy touring schedule. I think we may see a studio album eventually, maybe with a few dates before to polish the arrangements or after to create some buzz. The guys deserve to make a decent living touring at a slower pace and with a little more comfort than a Dodge van pulling a trailer. The only way they could do that is if something happens (a BIG shift in popular musical taste or a change in the rules of economics) that would allow them to play gigs in the 5000 seat range consistently and play less often. (5000 is an arbitrary figure, the assumption is they would not want to do stadium gigs and I'm guessing that's about as big a concert hall venue as you are likely to find.) In the near term, it sounds like there is more chance of projects that involve several but not all of them, like the musical which seems to be a Jian and Mike thing (from what I understood from that earlier quote)
I got all confused for a second because I have CDs from both a group named Betty and a group named The Bobs. :) I couldn't see Dave in a chick band or a fully a cappella band. :) (I'm sure he'd be great in the latter but without his instrumental talent it'd seem like he had a limb chopped off and it'd be sad! :) )

I was born in Corning, NY, but have been living in Dallas, TX since March 2002. I'm into Beatles, Monkees, Crowded House, and some guys named Fru-something. ;-) I am very into video and audio projects. I want to trade for Fruvous shows at some point. Glad to be on board! Alright, everyone - "Welcome, David!" What shows do you have, by the way? -Lisa
check out the tape trading page. a lot of us have pretty decent collections and are willing to trade for other shows or b+p.
Hi Emmy! Glad you could join us! FHDC is kinda like AA, except that we don't give out maps or rescue people on the highway. Oh wait...nevermind. perhaps, I really cannot say, I am a little unfamiliar with the band. This sounds as though it may be the one. Is it available through an online merchant? Is it considered a bootleg? Sorry, I guess I should have done a little more research before I started asking questions.
They were probably still selling C at the merch table at the last show. (By last show, did you mean Oberlin, or Toronto). C was not sold in stores. It was available online and from the band. I don't think it is still in stock any more. (Quickly checks Maplemusic.com) Yep out of stock. Everything is out of stock except Wood and Thornhill. I would suggest trying online used CD stores, half.com, or that service that finds hard to find discs. What was that called again? Chrissy?
The C album isactually in stock again at www.maplemusic.com. This was mentioned in another thread, but people may have missed it.

hi all! I am also one of those ppl who got into Fruvous after they stopped touring, although I did have the fortune of seeing them in 99 at the Philly Folk Festival. I truly hope they tour again at some point in the future. .But if they don't , I greatly enjoy listening to their music. they are officially my favorite band. Does anybody have any recommendations for good live tapes to request at the trading post? Email me at [email protected] oh yes, and some newbie questions. what are frumiles and frucards? Hey all, some of you may know me. I was a huge Fru-head for about 3 years or so befoer they went on hiatus. I was at their last show in Oberlin Ohio. After they stopped touring I finished college and I am grad student doing a double masters program in Divinity and SOcial WOrk in CHicago. SOme of you may know Sheryl. We could often be found together. She is a friend from all the way back in Junior High. It is good to see the fans are still around even without the band touring. Fruvous Rocks and I probably wouldn't be where I am not if it wasn't for all my experiences and the people I met from being a fru-head. Okay, my wife and I are going crazy!!! We live in Los Angeles and were lucky enough to see the fellas on their last west coast swing and instantly were hooked. We can even sing a heck of a rendition of "Gulf War Song" (Still very fitting by the way). Anyway they went on hiatus right after that and we really need them to come back. We only saw them ONCE! It seems like everybody's pretty much given up on them so I guess my question is: is 4 years still technically a hiatus or a "break up"? I'm still calling my "day job" a "day job" but I've been here for 6 years so do I have to drop the "day" and call it my "job"? Anyway one can hope...
