I've never really understood why folks would want to. I don't think it's wrong to, that's not what I mean. I just never understood it.

I like to see when people are sending a frumessage and wondering if it's for meeee! :)
nate... · 22 years ago

Always have since it became an option.

Not sure why.. I guess I just don't like people following my every move... *shrugs*

It's funny that this poll showed up... I was just thinking about going to visibility yesterday.....

I guess it is that one last remnant of privacy. This is the only forum I've participated in EVER where I actually use my full, real name... it's out there all the time. People here know who I actually am, not just who my online persona may be. I think that is kind of a big deal on the internet, to have that kind of trust. So I guess I like to keep at least something to myself. It might not make sense, but there you have it.

I keep mine showing because I know it's helpful when other people do. If I'm on a back-and-forth messaging spree with someone, and they've been idle for a few minutes, it helps to know if they're writing a message or not. That way I have an idea of how long it'll take. By the same token, I definitely understand those who keep it hidden. It'd be too intrusive to not have an option to hide it.

For those who don't know what we're talking about, Customize Profile and you'll see a "Show My Actions on Recent Users" checkbox. If you uncheck this, your action will turn into "--------" instead of something descriptive.

Another relevant one is "Include Me On The Member Directory". If you uncheck this, you'll be effectively hidden on the site, including the "Who's On" menu. Not a lot of fun, but some people are touchy that way.

Yeah, see, THAT I wouldn't like.

I like people to know if I'm, like, here...... I just hide where I AM on the site.

:)

I agree.  It's a feeling of control, however limited.
Talcott Back · 22 years ago

Yeah, what Josh just said.

I can't personaly think of a situation where I wouldn't want someone to know where I was on the site, and I like that people can know if I'm busy frming or in the forums or something.

I only hide my love away.

yeah! or when you meet someone new on the wall and next to their name it says 'view profile' or whatever and you know they're looking at yours! heeheehee! *dance* :)
Talcott Back · 22 years ago
although, I'll admit that it's an odd mental image when a new person gets on the wall and the entire recent users list switches from "Powerwall" to "view user". The more people, the more odd it looks (well, in my mind ;)

I'm with nate.

You don't need to know what I'm doing on FHDC.
emilie is CRANKY Back · 22 years ago
heehee, actually that's a very good point. that would be *totally* creepy :D
nate... Back · 22 years ago

Nor do we WANT to.   ;)

heheh

renita · 22 years ago
Most of the time, I'm an open book. Right now, however, I'm a hidden.

And sometimes I've even been invisible.

It totally depends on my mood--but yah, most of the time you can see what I'm doing.
Agent Scully Back · 22 years ago
*wink* you and me baby...over to the What's New? section....now! ;)

*rowr!*
Arbie · 22 years ago
The ability to be completely invisible might be useful someday, beyond that *shrug* the only use I have found is to determine if a frum or a wall entry is likely to be seen anytime soon. Not much of a guaranty there either, particularly if people leave without explicitly logging out.
nate... Back · 22 years ago

hahahahhaha

:D

nate... Back · 22 years ago

I don't know that I have EVER "logged out".

:D

I just lock my computer.
