I bought donuts today "for my team"........ and so here they are.... how can I NOT eat a couple. heh (Jun 28, 2002 @ 10:11am) «nate...» but, they've eaten the bulk of them. (Jun 28, 2002 @ 10:11am) «Andrea Krause» man...I haven't had a donut in SO long. (Jun 28, 2002 @ 10:12am) «Misch» None for me, I'm driving. (Jun 28, 2002 @ 10:13am) «Misch» Anybody doing anything fun this weekend? (Jun 28, 2002 @ 10:20am) «Misch» Besides Nate, that is... ;-) (Jun 28, 2002 @ 10:20am) «Joy- new picture!» Somebody brought donuts to the office two days ago. We were all good and edidn't eat any...until after lunch. (Jun 28, 2002 @ 10:20am) «John J. Ryan» Man, I just looked at the Camp Fruvous archives. The schedule for FRFF last year wasn't released until July 18th!!! Argh!!! (Jun 28, 2002 @ 10:20am) «Joy- new picture!» fun? This weekend? other than sleep? (Jun 28, 2002 @ 10:21am) «John J. Ryan» We had donuts on stage for the Officer Krupke segment of my barbershop shop. The audience was rolling! (Jun 28, 2002 @ 10:22am) «John J. Ryan» I'm having fun! TMBG in DC for FREE! (Jun 28, 2002 @ 10:22am) «Joy- new picture!» lucky, lucky man. (Jun 28, 2002 @ 10:25am) «John J. Ryan» oO Oooo, what a lucky man, he was... Oo (Jun 28, 2002 @ 10:26am) «Misch» Dr. Worm was played on WBER this morning? (Jun 28, 2002 @ 10:33am) «Misch» wait... that should have been a period. not a ? (Jun 28, 2002 @ 10:35am) «nate...» they did?? (Jun 28, 2002 @ 10:35am) «John J. Ryan» /me does a spit-take (Jun 28, 2002 @ 10:37am) «John J. Ryan» I think the ? was right Paul (Jun 28, 2002 @ 10:38am) «John J. Ryan» They're playing in Buffalo in August yes, but that's two months away (Jun 28, 2002 @ 10:38am) «John J. Ryan» I predict a DJ getting a reprimand and WBER getting a nice note in the mail "Why are you playing TMBG when you should be playing (insert artist)?" (Jun 28, 2002 @ 10:40am) «Misch» WBER is independent. (Jun 28, 2002 @ 10:41am) «Misch» :-D (Jun 28, 2002 @ 10:41am) «Misch» non-profit too. (Jun 28, 2002 @ 10:42am) «John J. Ryan» Yes, but that doesn't stop WXPN (Jun 28, 2002 @ 10:43am) «John J. Ryan» They need money to operate, and money from donations doesn't cut it anymore (Jun 28, 2002 @ 10:43am) «John J. Ryan» So that means one thing, payola. (Jun 28, 2002 @ 10:43am) «John J. Ryan» So what's to say that WBER doesn't accept payola either to stay afloat? (Jun 28, 2002 @ 10:44am) «Misch» They have an operating budget from Monroe County BOCES. There are some "paid sponsorships" too, as well as carrying the Rochester Rhions games as well. (Jun 28, 2002 @ 10:46am) «Misch» *Rochester Raging Rhinos (Jun 28, 2002 @ 10:46am) «John J. Ryan» I don't mean to be skeptical, but once I heard that WXPN was doing the same practices that Clear Channel and Infinity Broadcasting stations do (Jun 28, 2002 @ 10:48am) «John J. Ryan» I just don't trust radio stations any more (Jun 28, 2002 @ 10:49am) «Michael (foof) Maki» Painting the world with an awfully big brush there, JJR. (Jun 28, 2002 @ 10:50am) «Misch» As far as I am aware, WBER does not take any payola. (Jun 28, 2002 @ 10:59am) «lawrence» I think most radio stations are corrupt. they aren't interested in entertainment, just profit. (Jun 28, 2002 @ 11:03am) «lawrence» *especially* Clear Channel (Jun 28, 2002 @ 11:04am) «Misch» yup (Jun 28, 2002 @ 11:07am) «John J. Ryan» WNEW-FM, which used to be an awesome classic rock station, is now NOTHING like it was (Jun 28, 2002 @ 11:08am) «John J. Ryan» It's now shock-talk. and they actually started playing * shudders * infomercials on weekends (Jun 28, 2002 @ 11:08am) «lawrence» well, format changes have always been going on, though. (Jun 28, 2002 @ 11:09am) «Misch» yeah, I listen to WNSA for Sabres Hockey games, and nearly every commercial during non-game times is an ad for an herbal supplement. (Jun 28, 2002 @ 11:09am) «John J. Ryan» XM is using the current state of FM radio as its platform (Jun 28, 2002 @ 11:10am) «lawrence» there's a classic rock station around here that has a really good play list (LOTS of Beatles) and "seven song supersets" but in between *every song* they give (Jun 28, 2002 @ 11:10am) «Misch» *lol* I drove my mom to work listening to her favorite station, "Smooth Jazz, 92.9". Went to pick her up, the station had become alt-rock "Alice". (Jun 28, 2002 @ 11:10am) «lawrence» station ID (but not who performed that song!) and after the 7 are over they have about 15 minutes of ads, but also tease the next "seven song superest" (Jun 28, 2002 @ 11:10am) «goovie is married!» /me notes that pretty much every station in rochester seems to be "greatest hits of the '80s" these days :) (Jun 28, 2002 @ 11:11am) «lawrence» eeeew (Jun 28, 2002 @ 11:11am) «goovie is married!» lawrence: is that 94.7? because i could complain about them, too (Jun 28, 2002 @ 11:11am) «lawrence» yeah. 94.7 is *awful* (Jun 28, 2002 @ 11:11am) «lawrence» that's the one. (Jun 28, 2002 @ 11:11am) «Misch» When "The Zone" started in rochester, they played WBER's setlist. (Jun 28, 2002 @ 11:12am) «Misch» err.. playlist. (Jun 28, 2002 @ 11:12am) «lawrence» the one thing I do like, though, is it has a tremendously strong signal and I can pick it up way north of Baltimore. (although by then I'm in WXPN territory) (Jun 28, 2002 @ 11:12am) «goovie is married!» they used to be really good, say, 6 or 7 years ago. and then last i checked, they were playing really schlocky stuff. like all eagles/jackson browne (Jun 28, 2002 @ 11:13am) «lawrence» well, yeah, the playlist isn't as good as it used to be. I mean, they play Freebird at least twice a day now. ugh. (Jun 28, 2002 @ 11:13am) «John J. Ryan» I love the 90-minutes of music followed by 20-minutes of commercials (Jun 28, 2002 @ 11:13am) «goovie is married!» /me notes that when you're in baltimore/annapolis, you should be listening to wrnr :) (Jun 28, 2002 @ 11:13am) «lawrence» it's like they have someone at the station going 'Freeebiiiiiirrrd!" and they're listening to him. (Jun 28, 2002 @ 11:13am) «Misch» *gasp* And no asshole has to stand in the back and scream "Play Freebird!"!??!?!?! (Jun 28, 2002 @ 11:14am) «lawrence» I totally don't get that at all. Freebird isn't a good song. (Jun 28, 2002 @ 11:14am) «lawrence» like, why did it become the "standard" annoying thing to yell at shows? (Jun 28, 2002 @ 11:14am) «John J. Ryan» I also notice that try REALLY hard to make commercials seem like part of the show. You're listening, and then all of a sudden you realize... (Jun 28, 2002 @ 11:15am) «goovie is married!» because rednecks are taking over the world. represent. (Jun 28, 2002 @ 11:15am) «John J. Ryan» "Hey, why am I listening to a commercial?" (Jun 28, 2002 @ 11:15am) «lawrence» the news station around here (WTOP) is extremely bad - they have ads that say "*Your* favourite station doesn't play *music*" with music said in a condescending (Jun 28, 2002 @ 11:15am) «lawrence» way like "Eeeeeew, music. Culture." (Jun 28, 2002 @ 11:16am) «goovie is married!» *shrug* it's a classic rock anthem. perfect for swaying with lighters. and it goes on forever. :) (Jun 28, 2002 @ 11:16am) «John J. Ryan» It's because of "FREEBIRD" that DVN has that small microphone box to do that during Request-O-Rama :) (Jun 28, 2002 @ 11:16am) «goovie is married!» yeah, who listens to the radio for *music*? (Jun 28, 2002 @ 11:16am) «lawrence» nah, the fisher price things are used for a lot of songs. (Jun 28, 2002 @ 11:17am) «John J. Ryan» Oh, like Stairway To Heaven and Hey Jude? (Jun 28, 2002 @ 11:17am) «John J. Ryan» But the Fisher-PRice this is GREAT for Freebird (Jun 28, 2002 @ 11:17am) «lawrence» I've never seen them do Hey Jude. but Stairway, yeah. and Sgt. Pepper, I think, too. (Jun 28, 2002 @ 11:17am) «goovie is married!» um, no, the microphone was originally for sgt pepper and come together. altho it also comes in handy when someone requests hotel california :) (Jun 28, 2002 @ 11:17am) «John J. Ryan» this = thing (Jun 28, 2002 @ 11:17am) «lawrence» I saw a great quote the other day about Freebird.... (Jun 28, 2002 @ 11:18am) «John J. Ryan» Okay, it has a lot of uses. But imagine how much Freebird is called for during Request-O-Rama, especially in places that have never had DVN before (Jun 28, 2002 @ 11:18am) «lawrence» apparently the performer was introducing a song saying "This is a song we rarely play......" and someone in the audience shouted "Freebird!" (Jun 28, 2002 @ 11:19am) «lawrence» and they said "No, we've been playing Freebird at all our shows. Virtually since our inception. But we have a special prize for anyone who shouts it out. (Jun 28, 2002 @ 11:19am) «lawrence» we'll, uh.... snip their testicles off for free...." (Jun 28, 2002 @ 11:19am) «nate...» *laughs* I like that. :) (Jun 28, 2002 @ 11:21am) «lawrence» John - at DVN on Saturday in Fredericksburg (where apparently people are called Frednecks and dress up to go to Friendly's) the guy behind us during R-o-R (Jun 28, 2002 @ 11:21am) «John J. Ryan» LOL (Jun 28, 2002 @ 11:21am) «lawrence» wouldn't shut up about Freebird. he was just talking to his friend about it, too - like "Wow, I'm surprised no one has requested Freebird. I can't believe no (Jun 28, 2002 @ 11:21am) «lawrence» one has asked for Freebird. Someone should...." and so on (Jun 28, 2002 @ 11:21am) «goovie is married!» wait, wait, fredericksburg can't have frednecks. we claimed that title first. (Jun 28, 2002 @ 11:22am) «John J. Ryan» If I ever do a show and someone shouts out "Freebird!" I'm going to reply, "It must not be a very good bird, or I'd have to pay for it." (Jun 28, 2002 @ 11:23am) «nate...» or just, "Well, you get what you pay for..." (Jun 28, 2002 @ 11:23am) «lawrence» John - I'm working on a song about a Free Bird actually. (Jun 28, 2002 @ 11:23am) «lawrence» the point of it will be that if I'm ever in a position to do shows and stuff, I'll play *that* when someone shouts it out. :) (Jun 28, 2002 @ 11:24am) «lawrence» I'm also going to have songs called "sleep with me," "get off the stage," and "you suck" (Jun 28, 2002 @ 11:25am) «lawrence» "sleep with me" is going to have to be my best song, though, so people will shout for it and I can tell them to meet me backstage afterwards. :) (Jun 28, 2002 @ 11:26am) «goovie is married!» /me notes that lawrence is a freak :) (Jun 28, 2002 @ 11:27am) «lawrence» /me notes that he is proud of this (Jun 28, 2002 @ 11:27am) «goovie is married!» heeheehee (Jun 28, 2002 @ 11:28am) «goovie is married!» /me sees ben folds tonight *bounce* (Jun 28, 2002 @ 11:28am) «lawrence» lucky (Jun 28, 2002 @ 11:28am) « Previous 100 entries | Next 100 entries »
