Allergies

Allergies seem to be pretty common among my friends. What are you allergic to?
The ones that bother me now are ragweed and cats. In the past spring grasses were murder on me.
As for foods I'm allergic to apples. My lips, tongue, and scariest of all, my throat swell up when I eat a raw apple. Cooked ones are fine.

I think I'm mainly allergic to things I breathe, but never really got things formally tested, so I could have food allergies and such that I'm not aware of. My allergies really seemed to have flared up this year, as I just had an awful cough and post nasal drip for a couple of months, as some people here can attest to.
not sure if this is a true allergy, but disturbing nevertheless. for some weird reason, with any artificial sweetner (yes, even splenda) i get this horrid metallic taste that stays with me for days. even brushing &gargling every hour on the hour, nothing gets rid of it but time.

I haven't found anything that I'm allergic to. Sometimes in the height of allergy season, my eyes get a little irritated, but it's never bad. Knock on wood.

I've always known that I'm allergic to pollen and what not. As I got older, though, I started to figure out that the reason that I feel, for example, nauseous and head-achy when I smell a car air freshener, or artificial vanilla scent, or my mouth itches and my airway constricts when I eat melon, might be allergies, too. Now I think I'm allergic to everything. Except run-on sentences, apparently.
I have bad reactions to them all as well, but it manifests differently. I'm still not sure if it's an "allergy" or a "reaction". But all artificial sweeteners make me very nauseous and get an almost instant headache--often reaching migraine proportion. So...obviously I avoid them. :) I also am allergic to cats, but having three of them, I get pretty desensitizes. But yikes, if I haven't had a cat in a while and play with one I die. :) (Well not literally.) I also have developed some pretty annoying and pervasive general allergies but I don't know what it's of. dust, pollen, I don't know. I just know I have sneezing fits every day and need to take claritin. Oh, and I'm allergic to some ingredient in acne medications. I wish I knew what ingredient it was so I could find a treatment that didn't hurt me. But when I use the ones I've used, my face gets so hot and flushed that I feel like I'm 200 degrees, and then in a couple of days my skin changes texture to a really nasty sandpaper. Lovely, huh? And it itches like crazy. That's all I can think of.

I'm very very allergic to fish... and that used to be my only one.... but around 3 or 4 years ago, I suddenly started having tree pollen allergies, and they just got worse.
:( For those of you in your teens/early-20's saying you don't have any... just wait. Heh. I hear it's pretty common for them to show up in mid-to-late. Yep, I didn't have breathing allergies until a few years ago. They do tend to pop into existence later in life.
On the bright side, it is also pretty common for allergies to get less severe after your early 20s, that's what happened to me.
Part of that was due to me getting shots. If you have allergies that really bother you go see an allergist, they can really help. I used to suffer sneezing attacks so bad that I'd almost pass out from exhaustion. Now only Melissa's cat affects me that severely.

Well, after visiting the Westchester Cat Show my mom and I both decided we're allergic to 400 cats in one room.
And there's the distinct possibility I'm allergic to California. I did, afterall, break out in hives after being there for not 24 hours.
At the peak of my allergies I started sneezing at the zoo. It felt like my cat allergies and then I noticed I was near the lions.
gotta luv my reactine! i got sinus, skin, food allergies. i been to the allergist, can't afford those shots. my partial list (cuz i'm 2 darned lazy to dig out the results sheets): i'm allergic to those items to varying degrees. i also have some cycle on the severity of hay fever each year. judging by how bad it was getting, next year will be a drippy one, and the year after that would be a gusher. really bytes.

...I was allergic to cement. At least that is what my mom told me. I went to India when I was about 4 and I got really sick, and they couldn't figure out what was wrong with me. Eventually the doctor, who also happens to be a close friend of the family (I don't know why that matters), told my mom that I was allergic to cement. I don't know if anyone has ever visited India...but EVERYTHING is made out of cement. Ok that may be a bit extreme, but the floors of the house was made out of cement, as well as a lot of the buildings we went to. Sucked for me.
