Which population?
The population of the New York City Public School System from 1985-2000 I could tell you... I mean... if you believe in those tests, of course.

We must live in Lake Woebegon, all of us are above average :-)
I voted for "intelligence doesn't work like that." I always found the idea of intellgence being a scaler somewhat absurd. There isn't anyone I know well that isn't better than me in some aspects of what is called intelligence and worse in others. Making it one number puts a value on each quality which is arbitrary. The more math I learned the more changed my idea of intelligence. It went from being a scaler to being a finite dimensional vector, to being an infinite dimensional vector, to being a tensor. Now it is like pornography, I can't define it but I know it when I see it.
but the biggest answer (now) is "not measured that way." so maybe we aren't as invested in being the most intelligent as you assume.
i wish that there had been an "i don't care" option in this poll. i don't ever vote to be just contrarian. that is the response i feel most truly & passionately.
No what you have is multiple personalities, Leah, Gay Penguin... It is easy to get them confused :-)
Look... if I'm sitting in the living room with my calculator, and an average bear attacked, I'd be able to get away. But if we built Norm MacDonald in a doorframe... there'd be George W Bush, running his piggy little legs off.

1. which population do you mean?
2. how are we measuring intelligence for the purposes of this poll? since i didn't know how to answer, i went with "intelligence doesn't work like that." because it doesn't. erm. yes.
ME TOO!!!!1!!!!Fourty-Eleven!!!!!
ahem. Are we counting IQ scores? SAT/ACT/GMAT/LSAT? Things like emotional intelligence, or functionality and ability to adapt to the world we have to live in? I know my numbers in the first two are quite high. My emotional intelligence also has scored high on psych tests. But I suck at the last, so despite the numbers I'm not going to say I'm "more intelligent" than someone with lower test scores who actually manages to be productive/effective/happy most days.

only because the vast majority of the populace does not know how to apply common sense on just aboot everything.
I deliberately left it vague though I was thinking most people would answer in terms of IQ tests. As I said before I don't believe they are very meaningful
I've gotta have SOME merit here, since most of these people are supposed to be English First Language. You know you have a problem if by the 11th grade, you can't speak your native tongue properly. and give me my moment of glory here. I felt smart for once. : \ You must first create an account to post.
