I was all ready to vote for The Times They Are A Changin'. That was one of the first ten albums I ever bought. It's one of the songs I actually know the lyrics to. It is undoubtedly one of the greatest songs ever written. But I didn't vote for it because down near the bottom I saw I'm So Lonesome I Could Cry. Has any song ever been so successful at short circuiting all our sensory and analysis apparati and feeding straight into our emotions? It isn't a song about loneliness, it is loneliness.
